The Merckx Diaries Ok, so what happens when you only do fairly short fast rides and very few mile crunching ones?
  • this is a nice informal way of testing yourself quietly to see how you measure up against other fellow cyclists without having to all get together to race or pay money, but like the RP thread maybe more info should be given about the riders so that riders can see where they might fit in. e.g.

First attempt, having decided just to take it fairly easy as I was supposed to be doing a recovery ride after Sundays Highclere sportif (6.10 for 117.2 miles), decided at the first hairpin, egged on by my training partner, to go for it.

    Time 7.16
    82kg 44years old

For the record my garmin showed 2.44km with 122m ascent, exactly 5%. This was from the turn into the zigzag to the second speed bump by the cafe.

Did 6:54 this morning on a ride with demongrinder this morning. That was maybe 70k into the ride. First time I've ridden up since March and lowered my PB by over 30 secs. Well chuffed. Couldn't keep up with him on the descents and flats though.

The lanes were a bit greasy so be careful if you're heading out that way tomorrow.

As duffers would say I did an "eyeballs out" effort today after 65k or so. Only shaved 3 secs off my time - I guess I've hit a plateau in my training or maybe just peaking in readiness for Etape [;)]

FWIW, My powertap/cyclingpeaks tells me I averaged 335w for the duration with a max of 531 and min of 93 (slowed up on the second zigzag to the right for a car). I'd love to know what George B chucks out it must be pretty awesome!

I assume everyone is starting from the T-Junction and finishing at the speed-bump just before the car-park on the left.

6.08 for me this lunchtime, from the junction to the last speedbump before the cafe. Mind you that was after only 20 miles or so from Putney

The worst bit is always the road surface after the second hairpin.

    T.O.R: Type of Rider (club/fitness/cyclosportiv/racer/audax)

I have added in my new BP of 6:15, got it yesterday, went to boxhill via Reigate from Crystal Palace, I was there about 11:30am - 12:00pm (anyone else from here as there were a lot of cyclists going up the hill?). I did 3 reps of 6:15, 6:21, 6:21, pushing myself harder than last time so by the top I was at my limit. I must have sounded like a sick dog with all my panting!

I've also added in andyp's time which seems to have got left out.

On the 8th day God made a bicycle, and he saw that it was good. (actually personally he thought it was his best invention yet)
