This morning did Tunbridge Wells to Canterbury, not as hard as I thought it would be for a fat b*stard like myself, mind you some of the road surfaces are a bit dodgy especialy between Tenterden and Ashford

What time were you around, Paul? I rode the route, picking it up at Horsmonden around 7:45am, and finishing in Canterbury around 11:15am.

Starter pack was the PDF on the newsletter but they will send it out again if you email them. Rider numbers should be published today - should have been Friday but Mark @ peninneevents blamed British Cycling

Yes, I emailed them and they sent the links out to me again.

I'm looking forwards to getting my number so I know what time I'm supposed to be starting.

How was the long hill towards the end? Looks nasty in the route profile. I'm a bit worried about that one as I'm crap at hills and after 90+ miles I'll be struggling.

Cyling Nut, took me 4 hours 15 mins from Tunbridge Wells. Wogan, I'm rubbish at climbing as well, need to lose a few pounds (more like stones)Hempton Hill was a bit of a struggle but I think on the day it will be easier as there will be plenty of people to encourageus up. Anyway stick it into the Granny gear and spin up, isnt very long either.

Kap, the route is here: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Etape-Anglais-2007

The hill near the end (Hempton Hill) isn't really that bad. You turn right in Sellindge and have a couple of miles of rolling countryside before hitting the main road. As soon as you turn left you start to climb. When you round the first bend the road ramps right up, but it only lasts for around 300yds.

When I rode it about 4 weeks ago I was shagged but still found the climb fairly easy. The worst bit is the straight road afterwards, looks all downhill but it's not plus it's so straight you get bored very easily. I can see one or two accidents on that section come 1st July, be careful people.

Where's the start times?????

Really hoping for an early one. That way 4999 cyclist have to pass me. Lots of wheels to follow.

Agree with cyclingnut, only the last hill is hard. Not as tough as Ditchling or Ranmore etc, but will be an effort after those miles. Other hills were very simple.

If it wasn't for hangovers, I'd ride everyday.
• So, 6th June and still no start times, despite the info pack clearly stating that they will be available from Jun 1st....lets hope the day itself goes to plan...

Yesterday on the EverydayCycling site it said rider numbers would be sent by email. Today they say that they'll be available on the site by the end of the week (Friday?? Sunday??).
• Don't worry. There's till plenty of time to get to Greenwich!

I wonder if we can swap start times when they are finally issued. I can barely brush my teeth at 6am, never mind ride a bike.

I've been wondering about the start times. I'm entering with three friends and we all registered seperately for the event so the chances of receiving the same start time are nil.

Wouldn't it have been better to issue you with your start time when you physically register on the Saturday? That way you can turn up as a group with your mates and all get the same start time.

If you contact them you can start as a group. You'll need a group/club name. (Might be a bit late, but they were helpful).

I think I may need the early start to avoid the broom wagon. Do you think they'll enforce the cut off times? Personally I think there will be thousands of unregistered cyclists doing the route, as long as they don't lay waste to the feed areas am not bothered

• is anyone planning to ride this event without having registered? I know that this is totally underhand and not in the spirit of things, but I can't help myself and I really don't want to miss out. Is it realy so bad if you don't get in the way at the start and don't use any of the services provided?

If you are not using any of the services provided to people who paid then you are not gaining anything that you are not entitled to.

You are simply riding on the same road at the same time. The roads have not been closed and are open to the public as normal. What can you be pulled up on other than perhaps drafting people who paid?
• Rider numbers are up on the site.

Couple of things to note;

Looks as though the first 500 are sponsors / VIP's and journo's in the main. Up to about 2000 seems to be assorted club / team members. I neglected to add my club name when I entered and have ended up with an early 2000 number (7am start).

The above would suggest that a lot of fast riders will be off early - I hope I can get in a bunch of like minded souls (I am aiming for around 6h 30m) once we start.

07:30 start for me. I should be just about functioning mentally by then. I'm happy with that - I've got an hour ahead of the broom wagon and a good 1500 wheels to follow as they pass.
