Take part in the surrey league races.
Do 5 Uk sportives- gold in all of them.
Marmotte.
Ventoux-all three climbs
Overall to get race fit and enjoy another year on the bike.
"People setting the pace too fast on the front are abused to slow down. Riders that do not share the work are abused. Riders that need abuse get abused and the abuse is done in every language so they get the message"0 -
1. Climb AdH in under an hour on my 40th in July - just missed - 62 minutes
2. Under 10 hours for Etape in July - just missed - 10:04:02 consider that close enough tho!
3. Under 4 hours in the NYC Marathon in November
4. Gold medal & Top 10% in Surrey Tour of the Hills in August - achieved!! yay!!!
Apparently, just saying you goals out loud makes you more likely to stick to them - posting them to this forum must guarantee success [:D]--
Obsessed is just a word elephants use to describe the dedicated. http://markliversedge.blogspot.com0 -

Hey Andy, I thought you were one of the people who complained about d/c timetrials and people chasing pb's? [:)]
Good idea posting goals on tinternet, can make you look like a real big head and then very foolish when it all falls to pieces and ends in tears[:I]
I'll play though.
To be third member of the best long diststance timetrial team in Wales.
If I manage this then the welsh team bar will be ours again. So that's goal 1, to defend the Welsh team bar (<b>with me in it</b>).
Goal 2 To beat the probable challenge of the Navy team in the Welsh 12hr and so defend our trophy.
My team is four riders. On paper I'm the fourth rider but in the last two years, I've ended being rider 3 due to injuries. I'd like to be rider 3 on merit next year. If I'm to do this then pb's at every distance will have to follow so they can't even be classed as goals, just stepping stones.0 -
to enter and finish my first audax.0

Hi Chris, I am looking for something different next year, which is why I have listed basic objectives. I am happy to elaborate though, I plan on entering some of the Rudy Project events, as they seem to be non DC, and variable in distance. *If* I hit my targets, I may just try a national event - who knows : )
Your mention of team work reminds me also that the new team I'm riding with plan to work more as a team in ITT's, and also hope to enter some TTT's too.
So, that's my cards on the table.

To keep breathing all year long! [:)]0

To get my silver and gold Audax Grimpeur medals ( ride for silver booked for 10th Feb [:)]) then to go on and qualify for the Audax Altitude Award by this time next year. I also intend to do Ad'H in under the hour and to do the Croix de Fer and the Galibier. Ok, I like hills!Take the long way home0

To clarify (as you probably know)we don't ride as a team as in team time trial. It would be impossible for us to ride together and in fact our presentation night looked like the last scene of the film 'The Commitments'[:)]. Fortunately though this hasn't ended up in disbandment but two of the guys are now <b>very</b> keen to beat each other, which makes my aims even more difficult![:(]0 -
To complete the White Rose Classic in time.

I haven't got any current times to use as a guide for making targets plus I'll be 58 next year. Also not sure if I will be doing anything over 25 miles at the moment. However on the basis that I'm prepared to put my money where my mouth is I shall endeavour to match your times Andy if only to prove something to myself.
There is every chance we shall be entering the same TTs so I'll be doing my level best to beat you if that happens.[:D]0 -

I dont know if it's any help, but on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 6.30-7.00pm there are club 10's and sometimes 25's on the H10/8 course(cheap/good practice). This normally starts after the clocks go forward in the spring.

Deal!
I mainly work evenings Monday-Friday and day time Saturday and Sunday so the evening events would be difficult. When I race it will be on Sunday mornings and the odd Saturday afternoon. My local courses are on the A24 Dorking-Horsham-Southwater, but I will be going over to Farnham way as well. Cheers Mike0 -
Just booked to go to France in June to ride Alpe D'Huez and as many of the 2007 TDfrance cols as we can manage in a week.

After more than one Annus Horribilis, I'm setting my 2007 sights high. [:D]
PB's for:
10 = a 21
25 = a 55
50 = a 1:56
100 = a 4:18
12 = Finish one!
24 = ditto
PBP = non stop (ok 15 minute rests allowed).
LE-JOG = Sub 60 hours.

Booboo: Two questions,
1) 100 time relatively slower compared to the 50 time perhaps? Any reason?
2) When are you doing le-jog? That's a great target, how many days cycling or are you running straight through? I ended up trying to go straight through last year mainly because I couldn't stand the thought of sleeping with my brother in a car after sleep deprivation.[}:)]
Andy, great thread by the way, it's great to read everyones targets and aims. When you think your targets are high, reading some of the targets on here is quite humbling and hopefully will inspire us all on in 07.0 -

Yes, I seem to have bad luck whenever I do a 100. Last time out I had no support and it was 30 degrees. Was on for a storming ride then ran out of water. Dehydrated and couldn't maintain 17 mph for the last 20 miles, ending with a 4:19. Time before that was easily on for a sub 4:05 on the Cleveland course and it was stopped because of a car crash! [:(] so not confident about this distance...

September. Two and a half days is the plan. Already done it in 5 days and to be honest that was easy. I know from experience (Although not TT's, I've done 12 & 24 hour rides) that if you sleep for more than 15 minutes your body starts to shut down. So keep the rests short and hopefully it'll work out. I'll get plenty of opportunity to practice this anyway.

[Updates in red]
Hi there.
Great thread - can we make it a sticky so it stays up there all year round? We can then come back and tick the boxes as and when the goals are achieved!
OK - I actually wrote all this down on the back of an envelope a couple of weeks ago. I was stuck on a flight, and started thinking about 2007 goals while I got stuck into the on-flight drinks...
It would be best if all the goals are Specific, Measureable, Agreed, Realistic and Time-bound. I started with some overal goals, then broke them down into specifics. Then I started to plan the outline to my race season.
So here goes - overall aims for the year first:
2007 Goals:
Plan A
Qualify for GB age group team for Triathlon World Sprint Championships. Age 30-34.
[Qualified 1st in age group! 27/5/07]
<s>
Plan B
Qualify for GB age group team for Triathlon World Standard Championships. Age 30-34.
Plan C
If that all fails - then stuff triathlon, and start taking bike racing seriously! I fancy a crack at the 3 Peaks Cyclocross too.
</s>
[No need for plans B or C]
Specific Targets:
Swim
----
Sub 10 minutes for 750m without a wetsuit. April 2007
Sub 20 minutes for 1500m with wetsuit. July 2007 [4:58 400m with wetsuit 6/3/07]
Bike
----
Under 21:30 for 10m TT. May 2007
Long 54 for 25mm TT. August 2007
Run
---
18 min 5k straight. March 2007 [38:57 10k 27/1/07, 18:30 5k in Duathlon 12/8/07]
40 min 10k as part of a Triathlon. July 2007.[19:31 5k 27/5/07]
Tri
---
Sub 1 hour for Sprint. May 2007.
2 hours for Standard distance. July 2007
Some of those will be quite a stretch... but that is what I'll need to do to qualify. Gulp.
Race Plan:
A Races
Strathclyde Tri 27th May 2007 (Sprint Qualifier)
2nd Overall, Won Scottish Sprint Championship, Won British Sprint Championship age group 30-34
<s>Wakefield Tri 8th July 2007 (Standard Qualifier)</s>
Hamburg 2nd September (World Champs)
4th in Age Group 30-34 (4 seconds off podium)
B Races
Lomond Games Open Water Sprint 14th July 2007
3rd Overall
Ayr Open Water Sprint 12th August 2007
8rd Overall after swim cancellation made this a Duathlon
C Races
Buchlyvie 10k Run 38:57 27th January 2007
Corrieri Classic 10mTT 23:30 4th (Winner 22:59) 18th March 2007
Fast Blast Tri - Reached Semi-Final 5th May 2007
CSW 10mTT 21:51 4th (Winner 21:43) 9th May 2007
[strike]Scottish 25mTT Champs 17th June 2007[/strike]
Lomond Games Grass Track 14th July 2007
3rd 800m, 3rd 1600m, 3rd 3200m, 1st Devil
<s>Fast Blast 2 Tri 15th September 2007</s>
As part of this I also wrote down what I perceived to be my strengths and weaknesses in all the core areas. Then I had a wee think about periodisation with relation to these strengths/weaknesses and specifically how to apply them to my goals and peak for my A races. Out of this has come a skeleton training schedule which I'll fill in as I go.
There said it. Can't fail now!
Cheers, Andy

...very good point andy - as you alluded to it is down in 'print' and that can be a great motivator and I found that a similar thread last year (well earlier this year) was of great benefit to me when I was looking to set my goals...I achieved them, but reckon I may not have unless I had the 'contract' with the forum...so this year (my second cycling year) is:
1) qualify for PBP
2) not turn up for PBP
3) enjoy
...although I reckon 3) will be 1)...[:D]

for me the targets relate to getting the time at the weekends, rather than particular times:
1. learn my way around the Surrey Hills
2. to do at least two long rides (minimum of 60 miles plus) in every 4 weeks until end of Feb
3. to do at least three long rides (80 miles plus), with doubling up on both days at least once, out of every 4 weekends from beginning of March
4. to ride my basic 40 mile route at least once on every weekend if not doing long rides
5. be in shape for the London to Paris ride at the end of June
6. avoid the broomwagon on the London to Paris ride at the end of June (regardless of which group I opt for...)
7. beat this year's time in next year's London Duathlon (secondary target: get into the top 100)
8. not neglect my running, like this year...
right - that's the New Year's resolutions sorted nice and early. Let's wait and see how we get on!<font size="1">baby elephants are just so 2006... </font id="size1">0 -
Well I have already met some goals, bought bikes, been on 5 hard club rides, joined club, bcf and got racing license.
Now my targets are to ride some hard Welsh sportives, Dragon, Fondo and Black Mountains, one European ride and to do some races and hope to get some points.
Not toooo optimistic for first year hopefully [:D]0 -
