Seemingly trivial things that intrigue you

I don't think anyone has said it's good, the point was that we are unlikely to think it is good as Jaguar are no longer chasing the likes of us for sales as we were no longer buying their product anyway. FWIW I haven't actually seen the advert, just the picture and could tell it wasn't intended to appeal to me. 15 years ago I fancied an XF as my next company car but then the GFC happened and my allowance was slashed so I never got one. They then stopped making it and other than the F Type (which isn't practical) they no longer had anything that appealed to me - if I want an electric SUV others do them better. I do find dropping the iconic Jag logo for very generic text a bit odd but then what do I know?

Ears burning Pango? I guess it appealed to you 😉

At the risk of enraging the thread police, watch the ad on Youtube and then amuse yourself further reading some of the comments 🙂

Listening to the latest album by Garbage and they have done a cover of Starman.
My immediate reaction is "Why bother?" I realise musical taste is subjective but I doubt it in this case.
Update - The cover of Love My Way is different enough to be worthy. Quite like it.
Cities In Dust and Because The Night, again why bother?
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

The Red Weather Warning Alert to all our phones about 5 mins ago. Frightened the life out of me!! Such a noise!
I wonder if they used data from the COVID alerts back in the day? Is this a breach of my rights that I've probably signed away many times over?
Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

I've not had one, though a friend nearby has. Supposedly winds easing a tad from 11am, but will be wondering if the rehearsal and concert I'm supposed to be playing in in Exeter will be cancelled... another one I had to turn down, in Buckfast Abbey, has already been cancelled, as they are keeping the whole site closed for the day.

The last red alert ('risk to life') in Devon I remember was for the Beast from the East, and indeed one or two people did die.

Haha, seconds later, my phone got my attention in no uncertain terms... ⚠️⚠️⚠️😱😱😱

Yeah, I’ve had the red alert phone warning too. Possible 90MPH here right on the West Coast. I’ve got a long fence that’s broadside to the wind, so have been out screwing 2” X 2” battens to it and propping ladders against that to brace the thing. I dug the chunky posts deep and tonnes of concrete in the holes, when erecting it, but still. Now the roof, that’s another worry… Earplugs at the ready... take care!

I had a feeling it would be even more lively in your neck of the woods. A mere 70mph forecast here.

Interestingly it didn't set off my work mobile right next to my personal one. Both registered within 3 Miles of each other.

I was waiting to go into the dress rehearsal for our choir concert so we had about 35 of them go off but not all at once, mine was one of last. It then did it again as I was driving home and scared the shit out of me.
They didn’t use the data from Covid. It just alerts all phones as far as I’m aware. There was a big deal when the tested the system a year or two back. I think it must have been April or May last year as I was watching rugby in the Millennium Stadium.
The weather is getting a bit grim now.

Storm Eunice in Feb 2022 was the last red warning we had here although it didn’t seem as bad as was predicted from memory. Bert the other week almost certainly should have been red, it was only a yellow before getting upgraded half way through which seems to defeat the object of having a warning system.

A guy in Valencia would agree. He had just been saved from drowning by neighbours when his alarm went off.

Good luck with the concert, @Pross. My Messiah's still going ahead, as things stand.

We’re still going ahead as things stand. It was rough just before the red warning started but seemed to die down after. Still very windy but not as bad as feared and due to ease further.

Sounds promising. Yes, definitely breezy here, but not apocalyptic as feared. The webcam of Exmouth seafront is mildly amusing in its normality... cars trundling, people walking their dogs along the shoreline...

I am stranded in Portugal due to cancelled flights and easyJet not being arsed to reschedule.
Could be worse.

Having never seen anyone wearing a deerstalker in real life I’ve now seen it twice in a little over 12 hours (one audience member at my concert last night and someone just driving past while I was walking the dogs). Is there some kind of influencer for boomers that has convinced them it is this winter’s must have accessory?

Hmmmm…is there a xmas reindeer run near you?

Was the driver using a Jaguar? Mayhap taking a stance vs... y'know...

No, must have been one of those Remoaner types as he was driving a damned Jerry car (5 Series tourer). Traitor!

Maybe he was coming out of the workshop, so to say?

FWIW I always considered those bonnet mounted figurines on old school Jaguars very antisocial. Let me impale that pedestrian I've just knocked over.

Calories burnt when cycling. My heart rate monitor say 400 whereas an online calculator says 1200. I get that there is a degree of bike efficiency (and there is no attempt to deal with this online), but that's quite a range.

Work back from Watts.
200 W for an hour is 172 kCal/h.
Bicycles are very efficient, so let's approximate 200 kCal to deliver those 200 W to the pedals and keep the rest of you functioning.
Was your bike ride 6 hours and fairly intense? Or more like 3 hours and perhaps not as intense as 200 W average?
