Seemingly trivial things that intrigue you

I'd be wary of accepting an opinion of someone who writes 'worse rebrand in history?' when they presumably mean 'worst'.

Ha! Saw exactly one of those today being driven by Greg Wallace Bald Headed C'nt look-a-like bypassing the long queue of cars waiting for a space in the Hospital Disabled Car Park (it has about 20 spaces and there were 10 cars waiting) and he drove the wrong way into the area and took the last space I had just pointed out to a guy legitimately waiting as I walked past. So yes, driven by total c'nty c'nty c'nt c'nts!!! What a c'nt!
Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

He released that after 1 (one) teaser ad, not having seen the car, or any further marketing. Impressive.

Whenever I see traditional advertisers talking about appealing to a younger market I picture them as that Steve Buscemi meme. They may see themselves as being young and it touch with “younger markets” but are probably seen as being more or less Boomers by that generation (much the same when Rick liked to portray himself as the the forum spokesperson for youth). There’s a reason why young social media influencers can earn fortunes.

Quite possible that English isn't his first language. However given what he does for a living, I'll take his view over that of cyclists on an internet forum, some of whom don't even drive a car 🙂

Well maybe he didn't have a time machine when he did the review. In any event, more impressive than the overly simplistic analysis from some on here that the ad was good because its got awareness up and people talking. I refer you back to the Bud Light ad which did exactly that.

Talking of time machines, it's very clever that you know the effect the advert has had on sales of a new model before that model has been released for sale.
This is the guy who posted the video.
"Utkarsh Mohan is a Singapore based writer, philosopher, musician and artist of Indian origin."
He is a self-employed YouTuber. He used to be in marketing - exclusively in the razors and shaving sector. Not sure of the crossovers with marketing British luxury cars.
He did say he's a petrolhead, so there's that.

Well, this advert has made a lot of people aware of the new (as yet unreleased) car and has led people to research it before the car is even released. Seems to me that's a pretty big tick for all the bits that advertisers have control over.
The car may be an overpriced bag of electric spanners but that would still be the case if the advert was a macho guy driving his model wife through an Italian mountain pass.

I've already made the point above that there is more to advertising than just freating awareness. The video explains further about what else matters. It's worth a watch.
Also worth looking at the comments on the Jag YouTube ad. See if you can find a positive one...

Forget the ad, that was last month's news. Look at the reaction to the concept car.

You would say that given how badly the ad was received.

That does probably put him in a position of knowing more about marketing than most on this forum. Obviously doesn't make him infallible though.
They've succeeded in getting people's eyes on the car. But they've trashed their brand in the eyes of their previous customers, and ultimately, anyone who is buying anything more than a Dacia is buying into a brand at some level.

I'm starting to empathise with Brian.

I don't know what so hard about talking about cars in the car thread. Maybe I should do a concept ad about it to draw attention to it. Last three pages here aren't intriguing at all.

We're talking about advertising, really.
I do think the number of people who believe they are immune to advertising is intriguing.

Your "really" is doing a lot of work there. And anyway, it's been three pages of unsubstantiated unintriguing inexpert opinions. Perhaps the ghost of RC stalks CS still.

No way I'm going into the car thread.

I've got no idea if this rebrand will work, there's probably ways to play on the heritage and work with it while still jettisoned the Terry Thomas wannabes. But to dismiss it as a complete failure after one teaser because it hurts your feelings is very self centred.
I hope their new oversized car fails to sell like I hope the same for all oversized cars.

It's a bit like Twitter trolls trying to invade Bluesky because no-one's visiting their hellhole anymore.

Do we need the the car light thread? For people who can't talk proper vroom vroom, but need to talk about cars? That would mean the thread about not having a car could be about not having a car.

Clearly the teaser is not the only factor, but after the feedback they got on that they'd better hope the car is a good one to compensate for that.
TBF the concept car has got much better feedback than the teaser - still dividing opinion but in a much more even way (in terms of volume of positives and negatives being much more balanced). I reckon their biggest challenge is likely to be market place they are entering soon - apparently not great generally at present and will be up against some stiff competition from the likes of Porsche, Audi and Mercedes/AMG.

They probably know that flouncers are easy to wind up.

Joyeux anniversaire WS. (🤔 must be some BT influencer thing going on)
Crappy day weatherwise, the rain is back and it's dismal looking outside. At least I got my stretch the legs exercise done while still dry. Getting further down the street now. Hopefully won't be too long before I can wobble into town centre. Onwards.

Reminds me of the bloke that told my wife people are becoming too clever to fall for advertising gimmicks, whilst drinking a bottle of Foster's Ice 🤦

Tbf cyclists are easy meat for marketing men, with the marketing of stuff that you don't really need.

Yup. Don't even want, far less need.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Cyclists discussing the gullibility of people falling for advertising really should go into the irony thread.

Well we do seem to have discovered on this very forum the only group of people who thought that the Jag ad was any good 😄

That ad must just be on permanent repeat in your head Stevo. Move on!
