Looking at my BBC Sounds App and looking at recently played.
I recall Walter Raleigh episode and The Building of The Panama Canal on A Short History of but no recollection of Pompeii And The Versuvius Eruption. Must have snoozed for 51 minutes at 3.05am then woke for the Panama thing.
Very interesting series and not quite dull enough to send me to sleep, except the Pompeii one.
Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

Is it just me that simply doesn't GAF about Gavin & Stacey?
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Nope, not just you. I couldn't give less of a shit about Strictly, either.

Yeah, any of that stuff, and celebrity nonsense. Pretty much all of mainstream TV.

I'm told it's great but can't get past my loathing of James Corden

My car broke down this morning. At first the stereo started dropping out then I noticed the power steering going at the same time and just before I arrived the dashboard lights came on briefly before going back off. I parked at my destination and thought maybe there was an issue with the aux belt or alternator so planned to get it home then book it into the garage. When I went to leave the dash lit up but the car wouldn’t turnover at all. Called the AA (took 2 hours to arrive) who also thought it was likely a belt or alternator issue, a quick check showed the belt was still intact so he went to test the battery and discovered the positive lead connection was loose and could be pulled off. He tightened it up, tested the battery and I fired it up first time.
I can’t work out how the lead would have suddenly worked loose. I fitted the battery just over a year ago, it may have been disconnected at the garage when it was in for a service in August so surely if either of these had left the lead not connected tightly why has it only just caused a problem?

BBC News had little G&S 'packages' repeating throughout the day yesterday.
At the risk of sounding like a grump, how is this news? With all that's going on/kicking off at the moment, how does this qualify as news? 🤬

Yeah, that's my real bugbear about it. Each to their own but it's not important, and shouldn't be rammed down our throats.

It didn't suddenly come loose, it gradually came loose over the course of the year since you got it and didn't tighten the bolts quite enough.
Look on the bright side, there's nothing wrong with the car.

Where's Gregg Wallace these days? Headline news for days on the BBC. Must have been so very very important.

I heard he was appointed as the new CEO of Harrods.

Haha, I thought you meant Gilbert and Sullivan for a moment. That would be much better.

I know that the news agenda is often questionable but only in your Brian universe would they be featuring Gilbert and Sullivan!

And today; BBC News is laying it on a bit thick with Strictly.
Whilst the fact that Chris McCausland has won it is laudable and 👏🏻 worthy, but that doesn't mean that Auntie has to run a package about it every 45 mins or so, with soundbite interviews/opinions.

Got to make everyone forget the bullying and misogyny that went on during production for the past 20 years and that has now been completely eliminated.

I still can't believe how bad Facebook's translation engine is. No, I wasn't inviting my new boots to convert to Christianity, but suggesting they might want to come to 'le Diois' (the name of my French area, after the town name, 'Die').

How Bournville cocoa can taste so bland as a hot drink... I bought some, at over twice the price of Lidl's own, but however little milk you use, it still doesn't taste of cocoa.

For those of you on Bluesky, here's an epically interesting thread about Holbein's famous 'Ambassadors'. I think it might appeal to RJS at least.

I'm a fan of Bendor so had already seen it. Incredibly detailed images of the painting show how fantastic the artist was.

I tend to shy away from over-interpreting artistic works, but it's impressive both in the depth of his knowledge and the justification he brings to his interpretation of the symbolism.
