They usually rely on intelligence and advice from the police in the country of the visiting teams.
So, for example, if a club in the UK was known to have a bunch of racist hooligan fans, then the club would be expected to ban them from matches and inform the police who would try to prevent them travelling. The UK police often travel as well in an advisory capacity.
Meanwhile, if your club is visiting a city with violent fans and incompetent police eg Rome, then the club would do their best to advise fans and lay on special transport. Despite this fans are frequently attacked in places like Rome.
So the people who need to sort themselves out include both clubs, the Israeli FA, the Israeli police, the Dutch police and the locals.

Very hard to stop groups of North Africans hunting down Israeli fans. This isn't classic hooliganism where groups seek to fight with another group.
Could they have tackled the provocations by the Israelis - possibly - though they weren't chanting these unpleasant songs in Dutch or English. I know there was a bit of violence - apparently a taxi driver was attacked - but there didn't seem to be a huge amount - doesn't excuse it but it doesn't excuse the events after the match which were far worse.
Personally I wouldn't have Israel in uefa anyway

Some of them were proper old school hooligans who came to fight and chant and couldn't even be bothered with the minute's silence for the victims of flooding in Spain.

Hmm, not sure that the News Editor of Sky News gives the reassurance that she's an unbiased broker from her Twitter feed...

I really don't like going down rabbit holes on the subject, but given at the BBC there's Robbie Gibb:

Insinuating that someone can't be unbiased about a situation because they are Jewish sounds a bit far on the road towards antisemitism to me.
How convinced are you that you are getting the full picture from your twitter feed?
1 -
On the same merit, can someone who is opposed to Israel’s actions, not be anti-semitic?
I think both are the right questions to ask.
0 -
Of course they can be.
It is worth considering the possibility for some of the Tel Aviv fans to have acted terribly, but also for some Tel Aviv fans to have been attacked because they are jewish.
The ones who went around gathering weapons, tearing down Palestinian flags and attacking taxis probably deserved what they got.

I'm sure I'm not, but given the sensitivity of ME news, it seems questionable to have someone who appears to have a strong personal bias in a position where bias should be avoided. It makes subjects such as the Amsterdam news problematic, especially seeing the way that particular report has been modified (twice).
I'd be equally sceptical (for instance) if someone as politically one-sided as Owen Jones was the head of a news outfit rather than just a reporter with a known bias.

But what about her bio makes you immediately think she is biased?
0 -
Have you looked at her Twitter feed? Let's just say it doesn't give the appearance of being unbiased. If she wants to give the appearance of being unbiased, that feed is not doing her any favours. Of course, people are perfectly free to give a strong pro-Israel voice, but given her position, it seems surprising.

My apologies, I thought it was based on that screenshot.
However, what does "News Editor" mean, and how involved was she in this coverage? She's not even a "Senior News Editor". Could it be that someone has found a random low level editor at sky and they are pro Israel - with some very dodgy retweets - with no proven impact on the coverage of this story?

I've no idea (I suspect just a news editor). But, as I say, it gives fuel to conspiracies, as evidenced in a search for her name in Twitter. As I say, I'm surprised that someone with such responsibilities is so public with her allegiances. It makes it harder for Sky to explain the change in tone on that report, unless they can show that she was not involved.

Tbf, Sky mirrored my views. I assumed it was just football violence. Then I heard the "kill the Jews" chant.
Changing position on that info is valid imo.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

It's true, people will take on board anything that seems to fuel their conspiracy theory.
0 -
To look at it another way, if (say) a BBC news editor's Twitter feed quoted tweets only from a Palestinian or Hamas viewpoint, I think they wouldn't last long in the job, conspiracy theorists or not. And quite rightly too.

In other news, I'm seeing if I can get away from Twitter and over to BlueSky, not only because I'd like Musk to lose his platform, but as it's getting more and more tiresome to avoid the blue check anger which fills up the top of every political thread, and the algorithms that stoke division are pretty blatant. Latest one being pushed is all the conspiracy thing about Starlink changing votes in swing states.
Annoying that CS doesn't display BS links like it does Twitter, but a small price to pay. It seems like a lot of the political & news stuff that I've followed on Twitter is moving over too. Threads is still losing the race, as its feeds aren't kept up to date in date order, and the 'for you' algorithms are just weird.

Do you risk getting a left stance based echo chamber though Brian?
I'm not sure it's X, but the ideal situation would be balanced of people's views.
The problem with all social media is most people are trying to compete to be noticed so you get an exaggerated reflection of farty reality, the mediocrity it generally is.

Probably, though I do try to get a news from a number of sources. But the bile on Twitter is toxic now, and I simply don't trust Musk & his algorithm-driven agenda. It's pretty clear he's bought himself a vice presidency, and that's as undemocratic as it comes.

The political tweets on my Twitter feed feel very much like a left leaning echo chamber full of nut jobs. Maybe it's have "Elon" and "Musk" muted, or it's because I blocked all the people who paid for blue ticks, but I don't see anything right wing at all unless I go looking or someone is raging about it. Maybe it's because I don't click on rage bait.
Politically, it's currently full of people posting how others are just now understanding what tariffs are, or that Obamacare and the Affordable Care Act are the same thing, love for Darren Jones, people who believe Sky News is institutionally zionist and people posting that there's something suspicious about the fact that every Democrat won in Pennsylvania except Harris, and apparently it's down to Starlink being involved somehow.
Otherwise, it's people posting about Gary Barlow's enormous son and bollards.

As Musk would say, "Interesting!" And without the thousands of flaming bots for each post. It's not a hellhole, though I'm not sure how that will be handled when the flaming bots try to stage a coup.
There are some decent 'starter packs' of news people to follow too, so that your timeline has lots of voices without having to search them out one by one.

This sounds grim. How do they get themselves out of that stinking manhole? Sounds like they are up shit creek.

This would be good news if it's effective. The sector's been hijacked.

What are they going to do? Legislate a maximum profit margin? Make PE investment in care homes etc illegal? Appeal to bankers' morals?
Hate to tell you but there are already forum threads between bankers with titles like, "how do you live with yourself?". My understanding is that they manage just fine.

Dunno, but if they don't at least try to mend a broken system where it costs £250k p.a. to look after a child, then we might as well give up and hand all government over to PE.

I predict that hands will be wrung and then absolutely nothing will change.

You and PB are two ends of the Cake Stop Eeyore.
Agree that there are multiple opportunities to bring in more rules that don't really fix the problem, but that's not really a reason to do nothing. Clearly poor value is being provided.
