It's not a laugh, it's a cackle.

You must all agree on the dispairination of the situation!?

Call it what you want. What does it have to do with fitness to govern?
And again, it's not your country. All we need is for the presidency to be uneventful. I have no real idea of Harris's ability, but she's clearly less likely to start a trade war with the rest of the world or f*** up NATO, so that'll do me.

That's a fair point in terms of blighty.

This is funny in itself. Even funnier because ultra-MAGA Charlie Kirk didn't realise it was satire, and quote tweeted it.

If I'm Trump I'm quite happy to have people reminded that the liberal elite view the patriotic working class as garbage whether it's done as satire or not.

It was at his rally that someone described a part of the United States as a floating pile of garbage.

Puerto Rico wasn't it ? And in response Biden then described Trump supporters as garbage which Trump has been using to attack the Democrats.

It hinges on whether there was an apostrophe in his mind when he said "supporters". Not that that will change anyone's mind either way. Meanwhile, Trump is talking about pointing nine rifles at Liz Cheney's face, but hey, let's focus on an apostrophe.

given that trump was essentially saying biden was gaga before biden gave up, it's hypocritical to now treat his gaffes as meaningful
especially as trump has said, and continues to say, far worse
but that's the world of maga

The bizarre thing about this is that Trump supporters kind of want to be called garbage by Biden and Democrats will largely agree that anyone cheering on Puerto Rico as garbage island, is garbage themselves.
It's all a weird thing where the Republicans aren't offended in any real way.

Quite a scary thought that an election and the history of the world could depend on an apostrophe...

Yes, and nobody genuinely thinks that Biden meant everyone who is going to vote for Trump.
It's understandable Trump getting very upset at his team being referred to insultingly, as nobody connected to his campaign would ever do anything like that.

"It is with a heavy heart that given the insulting comments from the president, I have decided not to vote for the woman I've been calling a stupid bitch who slept her way to the top."

Your overthinking this 😂

I don't think that DeV was necessarily implying that that's what Biden actually meant, but that doesn't matter, as MAGA have been able to seize it, as they did with the much less deniable 'deplorables' comment by Hillary Clinton. Given Biden is both a pretty savvy politician and his being aware of the 'deplorables' weaponisation, I'm inclined to believe he was walking just about the speakers at the hate-fest at MSG, but that doesn't matter now.

Weird seeing them getting so excited about being able to cosplay as pearl clutching snowflakes.
0 -
Not cosplaying... that's just what they are... their whole existence is about being offended by, well, pretty much everything.... the only things that don't offend them are guns and murderous autocrats.

Do none of you care?
You're all treating Captain Kirk's boldness to go where no person has been before as garbage!

I think what is being forgotten here is that Puerto Rico is not what MAGA think of as "real" USA.
USA, USA, USA...
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
Yes, and they've forgotten how many Puerto Ricans have moved to 'murica.

No I do think Biden was referring to Trump supporters. He wouldn't be unique in making a derogatory comment about supporters of populists - you see it on social media all the time - it's just that politicians are normally savvy enough to avoid it. Listening to it I can't buy the apostrophe argument - he should just own it and admit he conflated his views on Trump with Trump supporters and apologise .

This rather supposes that there is some chance that if he wasn't rude to them they might have voted Democrat.

I mean what affect it has if any I've no idea. I doubt it makes much difference - maybe just balances out that comedian's joke about Puerto Rico.
I must admit prior to this I wasn't aware of the status of Puerto Rico vis a vis the USA and that they are automatically American citizens.

I think it helps motivate the base. Perhaps it helps allay guilt that some people may feel for voting for someone who is so clearly an awful person, but whose party seems more aligned with their religion.
I don't think anyone is interested in the apostrophe though.

Sure, he meant supporters as in the people who were on stage making the comments. The apostrophe thing is very "boo-urns".
It would be a fairly dramatic change in tone from his last five decades to suddenly disparage half the electorate.
