Seemingly trivial things that annoy you

Stevo will blame Labour. They've only been in for three months and already cut back on the length of the day.

Surely it should be losing an hour of gloom.

No, it's much worse than that, it's until we go back to BST. And Labour is to blame.

It sets at 5:53PM on Saturday and 4:52PM on Sunday (here at least) so you are right, we are actually losing 61 minutes. I applaud your attention to detail.

This is sure to make the pensioners even colder.

We'll have plenty to blame them for next Wednesday without this.
Although TBH I quite like the idea of staying on BST all year round.

But it rises (roughly) one hour earlier so it is a stupid argument to make.

If we stay on BST, the right leaning farming lobby and campaign for rural England will start writing indignant letters to the Telegraph.

GMT means that most kids go to and come back from school in daylight.

Makes the drive in easier.

...or the ride in (since this is a cycling forum).
Probably a hangover from my farming days, but I'd hate even darker mornings in the winter, and as per the Graun article I posted about 'embracing winter', I'm quite happy at the end of the day to have the excuse to come indoors after work, close the curtains, and do bugger all in the evenings for a month or so.

It was originally a builder who campaigned for the introduction of BST, but it was brought in under Lloyd George during WW1.

Personally I like sunsets and rowing at dusk, so it's a bit of a pita. I'll admit these requirements are niche.

If your a lazy *rse you won’t notice that bit.

Thing is GMT is the 'correct' time. It's BST that is shifted an hour, so if you abolished BST it would still be dark in winter evenings.

I think it would be okay to review decisions made 170 years ago, you know.

Someone tell France they've been on the wrong time since the end of the war.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that things were changed originally to keep farmers happy. Could be wrong though.

Yep. When I first watched the clip that I was referring to (think it was in a news article?), I thought the video must have been sped up, but then saw that it wasn't as other people/cars in the clip were moving at normal speed. If he'd hit anything solid then he would have been mincemeat.

What's to review? Whether you call it 4pm or 5pm, the sun sets at the same time. It only makes a difference if you insist on going for a row at the same clock time every evening. Just go rowing earlier if you want to catch the sunset.

I have this thing called a job, for which skivng at the end of the day is easier than in the middle of the day.

I assume this excludes online skiving?

Yes, pretending to work is fine so long as I am at my desk.

Job done as I knew this tangent would end up people discussing how to use the end of the day. 😂
My point was the nonsense of loss of daylight hours due to the clocks changing. There is no loss of daylight hours.
Triggered by this nonsense posted by a friend in Quebec.

Blimey, that's extraordinarily gormless.

I particularly like that daylight hours during the summer solstice drop from a meagre 4 hours 51 to 3 hours 51.
That's a pretty shitty summer! 😂😂😂

Could you just fit some lights?

On the boat, yes, but it's the running into things and drowning I'm not keen on.
I used to row in the dark, actually. When calm and there are city lights, it is fairly easy to see what not to hit.
These days I am rowing at Wier Quay. You've been there, so you know there's a bit of light l, but not a lot. And that is around the moorings where there is an awful lot to run into and not a lot of space.
A head torch isnt really an option because you need it off to one side to shoulder check, meaning you can only look over one shoulder when you are in the water. I suppose I could mount something to the boat.....

Isn't it showing the respective sunrise and sunset times on the solstices with what they are now and what they would be if it changes or am I missing something?

The image shows the summer time hours changing as well.
