Seemingly trivial things that annoy you

I think it's generally the illegal electric bikes that makes it a bit tricky to catch them (that and the fact that they ride like they have a death wish)

Some of those appear to be heavily modded judging by the speeds they can reach - saw a clip of someone trying to get away from the cops on one through the City of London and they were really shifting.
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
Yeah, they're all illegal anyway as you are only supposed to be able to have electric assist i.e. you shouldn't be able to get it moving without pedalling as far as I'm aware. They need to start seizing and destroying these things when they enter the country as they're dangerous on several levels.

They are electric motorbikes, not necessarily illegal as such but not road legal without the relevant lights, indicators registration, license etc.
The road legal version of the small Suron bike does about 50mph without any tweaking - the only chance you have of catching them is on a similar motorbike and then you run the risk of the kids splatting themselves all over the nearest wall or killing a pedestrian in the pursuit. (Of course the phone snatchers are on non road legal versions)

Are you sure it wasn't RC having his phone snatched?
EDIT - oh, one not in flagrante mobilo at the time, just one ready to pounce. I'd probably need the extra hint of the 'swag' logo to make it obvious to me.

And subsequent riots as in Cardiff a year or two back.

Grrr.
"This is to confirm that you have the first generation smart meter and we can't upgrade you to the new generation meter if you still get the readings from the meter therefore you will have to send us meter readings every month .
We can only upgrade you if the meter is blank or faulty.
I do apologize about that."
In other words, "tough shit".
Anyone know a 'make a first generation smart meter go faulty' hack?

Just hose it down. That will probably clear the readings off eventually. Then get a new one.
Wear rubber soled shoes though.

Makes me glad I've continued to ignore all the kind offers to get a smart meter to help 'lower my bills'. As I've said before the only way the meter helps you save is if you are running things you don't need and if you are doing that without realising it costs money you're probably a bit thick to understand the smart meter anyway. Other than that all it would do is save me 5 minutes each month reading the meters, uploading the results and playing spin the wheel.

Don't you just change supplier and then the new supplier has to fit a new second generation meter?

Ah, now that might not be a bad call. I could first threaten to do that, to see what response I get from EDF. They might just tell me "allez se faire foutre", of course.

I can't believe EDF are sufficiently special for this to be worth your time. Can't you just go to [Octopus Energy]'s website, fill in a form, make yourself a cup of tea and let everyone else sort it out for you.

There's a guy riding around where I work on an electric scooter (childs toy type rather than Vespa type) that tops 30mph. He's passed me when I'm at 25mph on the bike and I've seen him pass cars on the A312. I have no idea how you stop something that unstable in a hurry from those speeds, but I suspect that's going to be messy eventually when a large heavy object stopes it very quickly. Things like that are just plain dangerous.

This is both the precise reason and method I used for changing from EDF to Octopus.

Someone recommend Octopus to Trumpet. You could get £50 quid each!

There used to be a guy on my commute up through south London who rode an electric unicycle/skateboard thing (the sort that you stand on and grip between your ankles) - it was going faster than all the bikes on the A24 and looked like it would slam you face first into the floor if you had to anchor on.

I'm on smart metering, with EDF.
They put it in as it was the only way that I could have economy 7 due to the old E7 being discontinued. It used to work by a radio signal down the mains to operate the switch.
All was gong well, I thought. But when I looked at the bill one day I realised that I was only being charged for gas. It turns out that the chap who installed the meter put the wrong meter type in the data base, and the system couldn't recognize the data being sent to it. This had been happening for over a year.
All was sorted out, no damage done. All the readings were there etc.
I have one of those displays, I've turned it off. The tyranny of the thing was driving me up the wall. i could afford the power before, I can afford it now, I'd rather not be told every second that I'm using too much, thank you!
The older I get, the better I was.0 -
It's one for the irony thread that disconnecting the display saves you energy. 😂

Go on, @TheBigBean - you are at the front of the queue. I tweeted at EDF, but they've not taken the bait.

Thanks Pango, but third in line now. PB's already second in line via PM. Perhaps I should have an auction...

I don't have Octopus, so I'm out!

Cheers Brian, Bean and especially Squirrel for raising the referral in the first place!

...and the annual debate begins. "We are losing an hour of sunlight.". No, we are not. Muppets.

Cut back innit? Can’t afford the extra hour so we have to turn the sun off early.
1 -
Depends when you compare to.

It is presented that we will lose one hour of sunlight this year between Saturday 26th October and Sunday 27th October.
This is simply untrue.
