If the VAR sees a potential head injury, or the player claims to have suffered a head injury, I can't see why allowing a proper assessment with a temporary substitute allowed on the pitch while it is ongoing would be "not taking it seriously".

You were proposing something to discourage claims of head injuries. The temporary sub mitigates that to some extent, but by the time you have subbed players on and off, it take just as long as the current approach.

It would discourage spurious claims of head injuries, by treating potential head injuries seriously. It would not take as long as currently, because players would stop feigning head injuries to waste time. It does have the potential downside of making an additional substitute available for managers if they needed it late in the game, so probably a stupid idea.

Spurious head injury claims are low down my list of time wasting aspects of football. Not applying the 6s rule for goalkeepers, for example, is much higher.

I just think if a ref suspects time wasting if player goes down you get the physio straight on - googled it it's 30 seconds from being ready to return until they are allowed - maybe increase that to 45 seconds - I can't see many teams feigning injuries if they keep going down to 10 men.

I've never really seen that implemented. What usually happens is the ref gets play underway. By that point the player is usually standing next to the assistant waiting to come on. The ref then purposely doesn't call the player on prior to restarting play, but a few seconds later he does. Presumably this is because the player gets in the way of the assistant and is just another hassle for the ref to remember.

An outfield player may be removed from the field of play to receive their treatment. With a 'keeper they receive dispensation as a specialist position I believe as there's no expectation for a team to play on without a designated player in that position.

Temporary goalie substitution? Seems fairly straightforward.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Time wasting generally doesn't bother me much, as long as the time is added on - should be more 100+ minute games like Sunday.
0 -
It generally isn't fully added on which is why teams do it. The insult to injury is when the goalkeeper is time wasting and the ref runs over to book him thereby wasting even more time.
I'd like the team that wasn't time wasting to choose whether or not extra time should be played. I know it would be impractical to introduce that though.

Sure, people complain about time wasting, then say it's ridiculous that games go on for ever when the time is added on.

They're not simultaneously held views though. At the weekend, City were complaining about time wasting whereas Arsenal were complaining about the amount of added on time.
I fully expect the opinions to change next weekend.

Copy rugby union, take times down to 40 mins x2 and instigate the time off / time on procedure. Maybe when a game gets to NFL type 4 hours duration an attitude change may prevail. Or not. Moneyball innit, tv rights innit, gimme gimme gimme... oh he touched me, he touched me...

If you're not interested in football this probably isn't the thread for you.

Chelsea's 2XI stolling against the 'mighty' Barrow.
Probably only a few billion difference in the cost of the squads.

People also complain about potholes, then complain about roadworks.
People like complaining.

Not for head injuries I don't think.
I don't think a 15 second conflab on the sidelines is all that much to get exercised about to be honest, which might be why noone but BB seems bothered.
I have to say I find it odd to focus on that in the face of so much other blatant cheating in football.

Looks like it could be close this season.

It will be close this year. But not by April.
Unless City have been docked a few points by then.

Four Cole Palmer today and could have had 7! Incredible really. Only player to score 4 in a Premier League first half. And he hit the post and had another disallwed that half!

He does make it look easy sometimes. Being too stupid to realise it’s supposed to be hard helps.

Dross weren't they. I am not reopening the Southgate discussion, but all those England fans who think that a simple change of Manager is all it takes to win a trophy are delusional.
Literally over 1000 comments on BBC Sport, slagging the team and Carsley. The same old cycle of endless criticism begins again, and they wonder why the players don't play with freedom and never win anything.

Tbf, my earlier post was deriding what I expected to follow. 😉

Listening to the radio when the team was announced and they made the point he’d done what many were demanding Southgate do with his selection. Sounded like they were lucky to lose by just the one goal, they conceded two that were disallowed in the 20 minutes I was listening in the car.

I do wonder if there is some happy medium between Southgates approach and setting up your team like it's a scratch game with a tennis ball in the playground at lunchtime.
0 -
You would have thought so, but nobody seems to argue for this.
0 -
If all players chase after the ball at all times, it makes for exciting football. My team once won 25-24 in morning playtime by playing like this.

Pretty much. I don't dispute Southgate was too defensive at times but he also understood it was about balance. The average England fan still seems to think if you pick 5 or 6 attacking players and just go for it you will win.
And yeah, we were very lucky it was only 1 goal, Greece carved us apart on numerous occasions.
