Big surprise!
17 year old Pauls Seixas is the real deal. Can he avoid being crushed by the weight of expectation as the next French GC hope, though?
2 -
If he can ride negative splits like that consistently, the answer is going to be a firm "Non."

The thing is, he's a better climber than TTist. He's one of the big favourites for the road race.
1 -
He's winning GC and mountain jerseys already in the youngsters races. I reckon it's good he's at AG2R and away from Madiot, who would knock the aero out of him and the panache in.
"Being world champion, it's a fucking dream" - he can even swear properly 😅
Oh and it's his birthday tomorrow, he'll be 18. So he'll need to wait a day before that glass of champagne to celebrate

Albert Withen Philipsen just gave an incredibly mature but disappointed interview to DK TV2, could teach the senior riders a thing or two. I guess teenagers nowadays might be made of tougher stuff than I was 😉
Basically said he had an off day, felt blocked, no sensations in the legs, was way under his normal power output. Says his preparation had been totally on point and he doesn't know why he couldn't perform on the day, just one of those things.
I reckon if there's not some underlying cause (onset of illness etc) then he'll be a real handful on Thursday. Should be a good showdown between him and Seixas.

He gave a similar interview in fluent English on the Discovery Channel. I'm excited for Thursday. Hopefully, they can both bring their A game and we get to see an epic battle.
Lorenzo Finn (Italy) shouldn't be ignored and if the parcours turns out to be easier than it looks, there are some others who could challenge.

I'm sure in his post race interview he said he's going to be riding for stage wins and the polka dots

Alec Segaert must've blown spectacularly in the closing 10 kms of the u23 ITT. He was 5 seconds up at the second intermediate checkpoint, but then finished 54 seconds down at the finish, just outside the medals.

Poor old Segaert. Runner up the last two editions and was almost a cast iron certainty for the title this year. I just checked to confirm that he was going pro next year only to discover that he's already pro. He's ridden an almost exclusively U23 program this year though which confused me.

Looking a bit further down the top 10, Ashlin Barry (son of Michael, formerly of Team Sky) looks to be a real prospect. Still only 16 (17 tomorrow), his results are extremely impressive for a first year junior. With the older kids aging out, I'd expect him to be raising his arms quite frequently next year.

His mum was pretty handy too.

Cat Ferguson wins the Junior Women's TT

Impressive season she's having

Riding as a U23 he had the fastest time for any rider U23 or elite at the Euros.
There wasn't much difference weather wise between his morning ride and the men's afternoon ride.

Local weather forecast for the road races:
Very heavy rain on Thursday for the Junior Women and especially for the Junior Men (level 3/5 warning in place)
Showers on Friday afternoon for U23 Men.
Persistent light rain Saturday for Elite Women.
Dry on Sunday for Elite Men.

Is it correct there is no U23 women category?
If there was, would Cat Ferguson have been racing in it, I see she is not in the elite race.
**I have just seen PFP is racing!!**
For training miles I would expect.

WU23 is within the Elites, so there is a jersey but it is not a stand alone event.
Cat Ferguson will race in the junior race tomorrow lunchtimes.

The Mixed Relay (on now) is giving the riders a chance to see the RR circuit at full speed. Not sure I’d fancy the descent on a TT bike though, nor climbing Zurichbergstrasse.
As an aside, it’s funny seeing my commute of 5 years (Witikonstrasse) being used for racing, let alone in a World Champs

More rainbows for Grace Brown as the Aussie’s take it ahead of Germany (by 0.85s) and Italy (~10s)

Hope they don't take your KOM. 😉
PTP Champion 2019, 2022 & 20230 -
I would have been close if it wasn’t for those pesky Italians! /s

Cat Ferguson completes the Jnr double!
Won from a three up sprint after making the decisive move about halfway through the race and staying away

And Imogen Wolff 6th according to Tissot timing thing

I hope the Italian rider who crashed in the two-up sprint for 5th is okay. Looked like a really nasty crash as her front wheel wiped out on the white line just as she launched her sprint.

Albert Withen Philipsen making it hard already at 80km to go. Peloton is at around 25 riders, a second group 1'30"ish behind
This loop really has some nasty little climbs, think it's more Pog than MvdP on Sunday

Movistar will be pretty pleased with their 4 year contract, interesting to see if she'll be able/want to carry on with CX.
I wonder if she will be wishing she had waited to negotiate post Worlds.

Philipsen and Seixas showdown looks very possible here

Danes trying to make it hard, but also doing all the work now Lorenzo Finn has popped off the front.
Philipsen hasn't really forced enough splits when he's gone to the front on the climbs, he's left vulnerable to a counter like that.
