    That wasn't the plan.

    😭

Nasty crash that, hope he's OK. Philipsen really looked like he had diamonds in his legs today as well.

Lorenzo now a minute ahead, Grindley catches and drops Alvarez in the battle for silver

    16km to go

Good win that. Obviously he was fortuitous in that Philipsen crashed, but he was off the front for a long time and had the strength to ride away from everyone else. Kudos to Grindley for fighting back and taking second, but heartbreak for the Spaniard who got caught by a chase group of three and dropped inside the final 2 kms.

Yeah, great ride from Lorenzo, he put some real pressure on Philipsen and got out ahead early (countering after a Philipsen forcing). Would have made for a great head to head with Philipsen if he'd caught him.

Theodor August Clemmensen snuck into tenth after doing early work and getting dropped on a descent, so that's a small ray of sunshine for Denmark, though not quite the rainbows in the rain to echo Mads P in Yorkshire.....

According to Brian Smith, Finn's dad is from Sheffield. Does anyone know if that's true? (Finn is not your usual Italian surname).

HIs interview in English was flawless (well, as flawless as you'd expect from a Yorkshireman at least) though with a slight Italian accent

Thoughts with Muriel Furrer. Hoping desperately that it's not as serious as it seems to be!

    Sounds bad

U23 men are onto the city circuit. Very wet, challenging roads again, and we just had a hail shower on the other side of Zürich. At least it’s not too cold.

Unfortunately Muriel Furrer has passed away after her crash in the Junior race yesterday. Her family has asked that the racing in Zürich continue as planned.

    RIP Muriel

    It is simple gutting

Cycling at a pro or at a world class level can't have many competitors compared to.other sports

The death rate during events is really high

That's awful news, my heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.

  • The lack of details around Furrer worried me yesterday, and I'm devastated to learn those fears were justified. I can only hope the reactions from around the peloton and the wider world of cycling are some small comfort to her family.

That’s horrendous. It’s always horrible when someone dies racing but feels even worse with her being so young and it was right at the end too wasn’t it?

Way too young for this to happen. So sad to hear this.

Speculation was that she went off the road and was unnoticed in a wooded section for a whole lap - I don't know if that has been confirmed though.

So sad - watched the u23s on catch up and even though I had already heard when they announced her death to the crowd at the podium presentation it was very moving - feel for her family.

After a minutes silence on the start line, the women are off and headed towards the city circuit on wet roads and under heavy skies.

I’m off to Zurichbergstrasse in full rain gear, hoping the atmosphere will keep us warm

PFP dropped it seems. Not surprising as the race is quite long compared to mtbing

She was over a minute behind on the 2nd time up the steep ramp, but I missed the photo op :(

Vollering and Vos on the front 3rd time around. Peloton still together but a lot smaller
