Well that's not going to do anything for all the noise about Pope.

A daft shot from Duckett there too

ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!

Brilliant from Atkinson as well - looking forward to that tomorrow. Our seats put us behind third man or long on for the right hander.

Enjoy

I think today could be a really good day. Sun's shining, match well set (for England), lovely stuff.

The queues at Lords are fucking stupid. So slow and long. It better be worth the much more expensive tickets.

Paper tickets help. Also hope you remembered your drinks which are allowed at Lords.

Atkinson not hanging around - two fours off the first two balls of the day and then out.

That's flying way down leg surely

Missing the stumps by about a mile.

Ton up!!!

103 off 103 balls - not the way he'd have expected to get on the honours board again. Very nice.

And what a catch to get him out!

Yeah, we were actually in for first ball, it was fine in the end, fast moving - I was just being childish because I don't like queueing!
And yes we had a nice Australian pet nat and we are currently drinking a nice Perry from Somerset. I've got a red lambrusco for later as well (there's 4 of us, although to be honest the bag searcher could not have cared less!)

Had good value really - I saw Smiths maiden century last Friday and Atkinsons maiden century today.

Crikey, they're having a mare out there.

So... I guess England will want to give the bowlers a rest for tomorrow rather than enforce the follow on.

Sri Lanka lucky to have Mendis.

Picking MOTM is going to be tricky

Gotta be Gus, no? Not looked, so could be wildly incorrect.
Obviously Root made 2 centuries, but he's expected to make runs... without Gus' century the game starts to look a lot tighter, and nobody would have been upset with him if he got out for 5 or something. Plus the 5-fer, 7 in the match.

Sri Lanka made totally the wrong decision at the toss. They batted nicely in the second innings again, they just need to do that consistently. Oval could suit them.

Root has beaten a few records too though although I agree that century by Atkinson took it away from what might have been a tight first innings.

A century and a 5fer definitely takes it.

Exactly, if you just take that out it goes from a 190 run win to a 90 run win. And who knows what it would have looked like with the pressure in England's 2nd innings if it was that bit closer. It took the game away from them.
Given how well SL batted 2nd innings it makes England's 2nd innings score look pretty sub par really. Specially when there was talk of a declaration before they started, in the event there was no question.
SL just need to find this gritty batting in the first innings as they've done exactly the same in both Tests and the warm up game now, a crap first innings followed by a battling second innings.

Scotland got absolutely thumped. But the way they pulled out of facing Watt's 24 yarders was disgraceful - if it's a legal delivery you can't just step away like that. First one was clean bowled fair and square, bloody Aussies.
(It wouldn't have spared Scotland an absolute thumping mind)

Well, playing spin to give the crowd value last night looks less clever today.

England’s frail batting line up has been exposed today.

The conditions have changed dramatically - feels like much easier this afternoon than earlier.
Could do with the tail hanging around and letting the pace bowlers have a decent go in the morning when it's overcast again.
