Seemingly trivial things that intrigue you

For those of you who Tube, is this an improvement, sacrilege, or a waste of time (other opinions welcome)?

The brilliance of the original format is that it kind of is still a map of London, meaning you can find where you are relatively easily. Most people seem able to trace coloured lines to find where they need to go. This is why it is lauded for its brilliant simplicity.
This new one is a chocolate teapot, and makes sense only if you are used to viewing London through a fisheye lens.

Why some people leave very sharp knives to dry with the pointy end up, or, even worse, put them in the washing-up water with all the other cutlery. Clever people, too.
OK, this might have been better in the annoyances thread, but it baffles me.

I thought you lived alone?

I have the odd friend. For some reason they seem to come to stay with me in France, from time to time.

Wife doesn’t very often load the dishwasher but when she does she always puts the sharp ones pointy end up. I’ve been caught out a few times. Luckily our knives are rubbish so didn’t do any real damage.

There's nothing wrong with having the odd friend. Normal is boring. 😉
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.1 -
A colleague was once stabbed in the face by a very sharp pencil. He leant over someone's desk to check the PC setup. The pencil was pointy end up in a container.

Nothing like a well sharpened pencil!

What intrigues you about them? I'm a reknowned authority on them (I went to a one hour lecture when I was on my cruise last year).
1 -
Nah, that's alright mate. I think I'll stay intrigued.

If you aren't interested in how high energy particles interact with nitrogen, how intrigued are you really.
Not intrigued enough, young man, that's what I say.

BTW, for those of you with longish memories, I tried the carrot water thing again, telling the young son of friends staying with me how amazed he'd be. Didn't turn luminous green overnight, so he wasn't amazed.

Given back those all years ago I worked in the business systems world so sort of get the vibe, who tf would want to get involved in the ICL aka Fujitsu Post Office shitshow? Unless of course, mega £ being banked.... shakes head, goes ffs...

What sort of systems in business were they?

I just saw something online talking about people who are intelligent, high IQ's. One of the factors was talking to yourself.

Is that right Focuszing, fascinating.

You would say that and your alter ego would agree. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I am afraid the effect isn't causal.

Yeah, even the over confident egos i may recall would surely back off that one.

So Mike Lynch, founder of hedge fund Autonomy Capital, dies after his big yacht sinks off the coast of Italy, not long at all after he is cleared of fraud.
So far, so coincidental. (I’ve also met him a few times but that’s by the by).
Here’s the intriguing bit though….
Separately, it emerged on Monday that Stephen Chamberlain, Lynch’s co-defendant in the US fraud case, had died after being hit by a car in Cambridgeshire.
Gary Lincenberg, an attorney who represented Chamberlain in the case, said Autonomy’s former vice-president of finance had been fatally struck by a car while out running on Saturday.

"A local fisherman told reporters he saw a waterspout in the vicinity, a form of tornado that occurs over water rather than land and can generate powerful winds."

Difficult to simulate a tornado though.

He wasn’t the only one who died on the boat either.
Does seem to be an awful lot of tragic misfortune for the defendants

I don't see what that's got to do with a yacht being sunk by a storm/tornado though.

Oh come on Rick, was this conspiracy theory claptrap really necessary in order to humblebrag?

Ya, ya, I was on a yacht* this one time on my way to that place** in Capri and my wife and I saw a waterspout. Awe inspiring***, but it is quite common in the med ya ya.

When I first saw the news I misread that Mick Lynch had gone missing off a super yacht and didn't think that it was totally implausible.
