Olympics 2024

I know weight lifting has a dodgy history (and potentially still is) but that Bulgarian guy was impressive. Total combined weight of over 400kg and only 20 years old. Looked like he could have gone heavier in the clean and jerk if needed too.

Would like to see British Bulldog (might need renaming) and kerby brought in, disappointed they didn’t have them in London (maybe off ground touch and hide and seek too).

How about competitive arguing? I think we all know someone who would be a certainty for gold.

Here's a true Olympian giving it all she's got.
What's the latest medical advice for someone suffering a seizure?

Is that an actual competitor or a parody? It looks tame compared to what some of my classmates were doing in the school cloakroom at lunchtime in 1984-85.

Women’s madison craziness about to start

Can confirm it's genuine.
Just watched her whole routine. It's very funny. Like that John Smiths diving ad. Her opponent was considerably better.
She lost 18-0.

Nobody wants Kirby involved ffs.

I don’t know, having him lie down while teams take it in turns to bounce a ball off his head would be alright

I'd like to see inline hockey, and to reinstate more track cycling events.

KJT gave that a serious go, I thought she may have had it and one point. Thiam was really hanging on.

She looks really happy too which is great to see after all her issues over the years.
Have to say, Anna Hall is one beautiful woman

Women’s 10,000m is slow. Giving Hasan a nice warm up for the marathon is less than 36 hours.

Careful, remember this is bikerader forum, where such comments may be frowned upon.
I have to agree and she and KJT are obviously good mates…….unlike KJT and Thiam, judging from the way they kept their distance, post race.

The woman’s 10,000 has mostly been a jog, but still way too fast for the GB athletes, one of whom has been lapped.

The pace of the 10000m seemed to make the French runner fall asleep on her feet (still going to be 50% quicker than me though)

Yeah, I'm a bit shocked at Eilish McColgan, Liz's daughter. I thought she was/is a pretty good runner.

McColgan is a four-time European Championships medallist, winning silver medals for the 5000 m in 2018 and 10,000 m in 2022, bronze in the 5000 m in 2022, and a bronze for the indoor 3000 metres in 2017. She is the European record holder for the 10 km road race, and the British record holder for the 5000 m, 10,000 m, 5 km and half marathon. She also holds the European best in the 10 miles on the roads.

Chebet gets her second gold. Hassan gets her second bronze in the middle distance of trio of events, could maybe have taken gold and definitely silver but was too far back with 400m to go and had to run wide for most of the lap.

Yeah, fair point.

Was surprised the French woman seemed to pass out at that pace especially as it’s raining too.
It’s a strange one, my friend ran her 10000m track PB a couple of months back with a very short 32 and Keith won that race with a very short 31 yet tonight so ran a 33.20 with conditions not seeming to be too challenging

The Aussies and Dutchies have really punched above their weight in the gold medal tallies.
Japan seem to have won a couple of golds this evening, no idea what in, to jump to 4th.

Aussies are often 3rd aren’t they? Feels like it is quite often between us and them. GB have had an odd Games, in the past they’ve tended to get a high proportion of gold medals from the medal total but this time they’ve been pipped on so many occasions. Also don’t seem to have won many golds in traditional strong events.

A record $283 million in new money will flow to our elite athletes, coaches and support staff over the next two years in a historic show of support on the path to Brisbane 2032. This investment represents a 50 per cent increase on the previous Government's 2021- 2022 high performance funding.
Struth, fair dinkum mate.

Just checked and the Aussies had a couple where they dropped down the table, Rio was poor and I forgot we’d finished second at Rio ahead of China. Looks like GB will get a similar number of medals in total to the last 3 Games but will be well down on golds.

Feels like we've normally done a lot better in the boxing. Ditto for the sailing although not really been following it.

Yeah sailing seems to have been disappointing. One gold I think and that was in the new kite sailing category. It feels like in the boxing the judges have been looking for something different to the GB boxers have been giving, listening to the pundits there were a few fights where they thought the Brit had done enough but they lost. Not sure if there are categories we still have someone left in but don’t think so. Rowing was better than Tokyo but not up to past glories and track cycling looks like it will be lots of medals but few golds. Swimming also down I think.
