A convicted doper runs away with the first semi final of the woman’s 400m, having done nothing since her return, until now…..

Hudson-Smith to win with a European record.

I hate the BBC pieces ahead of a medal hopeful racing. Lost count of how many times I saw the ‘come on Keely’ one and have seen the Hudson-Smith one three times this evening so far.

My lip reading skills suggest Hudson-Smith wasn’t happy. Race was 10m too long.

Nooooo

Yet again. We seem to have had a bit of a pipped to silver Olympics.

The Yanks keep pinching all our medals!
I did say, but I didn’t think it would happen if he ran 43.4

If you run 5th fastest time ever and lose I don't think you can do much more.
Watts must have some raw speed as his technique is terrible, usually that straining would cause a runner to tense up and slow.

Meant Hall, confusing him with Quincy Watts!

Couldn’t have done more, sometimes you just get beaten by someone faster.

Denise Lewis just asked that very question to Michael Johnson: “How can someone run that fast when your technique is falling apart?”
MJ said it was strength, I would have said, what technique?

Absolutely. Hudson-Smith, Kerr, mens and women's pursuit etc. All broke NR and PB and performed to their limit. If someone else is just better on the day, that's how it is.

His head was rocking and everything. I thought it looked like shear desire at the risk of destruction.

If I'd have known you could win Olympic gold with no discernible technique I might have tried harder in school athletics!

to run the 4th fastest time ever, closing like a train, over striding and tensing every muscle is astonishing.

Seeing the Indian guy in the steeplechase makes think about how incredibly underrepresented the world's most populous nation seems to be in the games. They're currently 66th on the medal table.

Steeplechase was a cracker. Ethiopian guy went down hard trying to stay with the mad pace Rooks set with a lap to go. Looked like he knocked himself out.

I was thinking the same.

The Americans have found a magic formula.
Another unbelievable run from Ken Rooks in the steeplechase.
He took a mere 9 seconds off his PB.
Almost pulled off a shock result.

What's happened to the Kenyan steeplechasers?
0 -
Wasn’t there one in third? One fell earlier too I think. The Ethiopians need a lesson from Rick and to understand they should run an even pace at their maximum level, they were tactically inept.

I think you mean the Ethiopian. Eurosport showed a front on shot in which he appeared to be out cold.

They were drafting each other.

Think he means in general rather than the faller.

Oh, in that case it’s drug busts!

Between 1968 and 2016, Kenya won every Olympic steeplechase with the exception of the two they boycotted.

Thank you. Just to clarify, are you actually OK with males claiming to be women punching actual females in women's boxing at the Olympics?

Watts did have a lot of watts back in the day!
