It's 30 years since I have had anything to do with Evesham but that triggers a few memories 😁
Anyway, I'll leave you and Chasey to argue about who knows the mostest about rowing.

Good race. Lots of crews of the standard I rowed at - universities, high schools, club boats. It's the biggest single regatta in the world, in terms of number of boats but there's a bit of a range of standards.
We were on the west coast, so we did the crew classic, head of the lake in Seattle, etc. I think we beat the Jedi Knights the second time we went down to San Diego - that's an all ex-US Olympic crew. Scratch crew, mostly in mid-30s to mid-40s, but damn they knew how to row.

Never rowed in a boat that liked to be "told off" by the small person who doesn't row. All of the supposedly motivational stuff was found irritating across the board, whether positive reinforcement or calling people out. Perfunctory was universally more appreciated.

And can I just say, explaining that RC is talking nonsense is not the same as claiming I'm some rowing guru. I'm not. I'm just pointing out how easy it is to spin a brief and undistinguished competitive rowing experience to sound like it is way more than it was.

Sure, but are you prioritising a pleasant day's rowing or crossing the line first? Obviously that balance changes at different competitive levels.

For me a pleasant day rowing is in a single, somewhere beautiful, with no noise.
From what I can tell, top level coxswains say relatively little.
For all we know RC is a top level coxswain, but one who holds minority views on race strategy.

If this thread is a Willy waving contest between FA and RC, then you both need to remember some French pole vaulter lost out because his was too, er, prominent.

First thoughts in watching the early parts of the Kayak Cross: Meh. Could be interesting,
Second thoughts (once there were 4 at the start line): Holy Crap. This is carnage. Hugely entertaining carnage :)
Third thoughts: How they going to progress this in the future? Hmmm perhaps they'll sharped the paddle blades.....

The problem with them both is they can't look forwards, so they're always looking at the passed.
Elon Musk would have gotten nowhere with this backwards thinking approach.

Yes enough is enough.
Here is that Hungarian swimmer.

Well I *am* shocked. How totally out of character 😁.
A variety of ideas is a good thing.

Moving on - if 44 out of 58 competitors are under par, what does par mean?
0 -
It probably means the course is not very challenging. Par is the expected number of strokes.
Either that or their are all going down with covid 🤓

A lot of courses have become too easy for the top pros due to the distance they can hit the ball these days. I believe there are new rules regarding ball construction from next year to try to address the issue.

There is a youtube vid where a number of the best golfers around are given 20 year old drivers and balls. They hit around 80-100 yards less with them. The difference modern equipment makes to club length is huge.

Does seem like the golfing governing bodies have rather lost control of things. Pressure because so much of the industry relies on equipment sales?

I’m not a massive fan of watching gymnastics but always find the rings impressive. Would love to have that level of strength.

Anyone know where the women’s road race can be seen. I was watching it on ES2HD, got bored and went over to Moto2 British GP… went back to see the cycling but it’s showing shooting and can’t see the RR anywhere on ES or BBC.

Yet to see this chaotic sounding event, but maybe it would be better to have a multi-laned stretch of water, where each racer has their own lane? A bit like when they race-off rally cars against each other in stadiums.

Definitely, sales revenues are massive, and the push is always to make equipment more forgiving. The result being better handicaps for amateurs and pros making mincemeat of all but the most difficult courses.

Which is also never quite fair.
Have a slight objection to "fun" events in the Olympics, when many athletes have to train for years for a single shot.
But having watch a bit, it's actually quite good.

It’s on Discovery + and BBC are flicking to it every now and then, I assume they’ll cover the end.

My friend has just been called in to run the marathon due to an injury. Luckily she had the foresight to arrange her wedding for the week after the Olympics even though at that point her PB was well short of the qualifying time. Gutting for Charlotte Perdue who has had to drop out though and disappointed that I was in Paris the wrong week now.

Bloody hell. How far short of the qualy time is she?

Thanks.... Haven't got Discovery +.... never mind. Fortunately the bit I did see wasn't exactly setting my pulse racing.

She’s ran the qualifying time last December with 2.25.01 which is a Welsh record (qualifying time was 2.26.50) but was the 4th fastest of the Brits to run it in the qualifying period. At the time they arranged their wedding her PB was 2.31 though so avoiding the Olympic period seemed optimistic!

Not following.. you saying her PB is okay, but SB slightly short.
It is still disgustingly fast.

I probably missed the memo, but why is Rory McIlroy now not British?

Ive got it listed on 2 ES channels simultaneously and one of them sticks with it
