Annoying. BBC have limited coverage on 2 channels, and are currently showing the same badminton match on both.

Keely Hodgkinson will be tonight’s star attraction for UK viewers, as the 800m is one of the first events on the schedule.

The word is that Tom Pidcock's ridiculous time on Sa Colabra was the result of drafting with his team mates.

Feel is the best way to describe his game, I think the range of shots he had and his touch was better than all bar Federer. Agree, had he been more attacking and had the mindset of the big 3 I genuinely feel he would have won 10+ slams. That's not to downplay his achievements at all, I love the guy. Like you I grew up watching Brits that could never compete, I will always be grateful to have seen Andy's career abd watch him win Wimbledon and the US Open.
1 -
He wasn't racing them.

Well, there were no tactics at all in the men's pair today. The final result wasn't in any way whatsoever influenced by tactics.

You are talking cobblers though that cyclists get no drafting benefits on climbs.

I didn't say it was zero, bit the effect is v small at 20 kph. I would suggest much much smaller than the psychological benefit of having a wheel to follow.
1 -
So little that the maths worked out by aerodynamicists that it is worth riders riding aero frames with a small weight penalty for climbs of 8% average or less
0 -
That's not inconsistent with what I've just said.

However that pairs final completely illustrated the effect of tactics in lane racing. The pressure of a good sprint finish won that race.

-
You are confusing more than nothing with a lot. If 8% is break even, whatever effect there is, is small. I.e. at 20 mph about 1/3 as much as at 35 mph.
0 -
I love how you've ignored how utterly bollocks your argument about lane racing tactics was.

Josh Kerr says the gold medal is his after first round qualifying 😂 I believe him 😃

I'll be watching that for sure.

I didn’t realise how rubbish the BBC coverage is until I sat down to watch properly for the first time, today.
Their athletics coverage used to be so good, but this is the bare minimum.
Anyhow, it seems as if the favourite for the women’s 100 metres is a geriatric. Setting PBS at over 35 seems to be all the rage with the women in this event.
I remember when she was great over 60 metres but couldn’t perform beyond indoors.

Could be wrong but I thought we had more than 2 options to view events at previous Olympics on the BBC. Hadn’t been great so far. Maybe Olympics are tighter with broadcast rights this year? 🤷♂️

The favourite is ShaCarri Richardson. It would be highly suspicious should the Jamaican Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce wins who has been absent from the circuit this year and although already a top athlete, mysteriously improved in her thirties after a lengthy lay off to give birth 🤔

Tokyo was terrible. The BBC only had the bare minimum free to air coverage due to losing the rights from memory. I’ve only seen coverage last weekend so far, ironically due to being away in Paris. The thing I find annoying with BBC sports coverage these days is there are a load of pundits and commentators who think they are the main event.
0 -
They lost the full broadcast rights in 2015 but this is obviously the first one in our time zone since then, so it is a lot more obvious.
The current deal with Discovery/Warner Bros runs to the 2032 Olympics.

Not sure Bryony Page is going to stop smiling anytime soon. Nor should she. Chuffed to bits for her

Quite.
Despite having dubious pundit credentials in the first place.
Sports coverage is much like mass production: the more we get, the poorer the quality becomes.

2016 was the last one where the BBC had the 8 extra channels and loads of streams on the website.
I am thoroughly enjoying Eurosport's traditionally cavalier approach to the programme guide on their TV channels - the sport you see is very rarely the sport on the description. But it does allow you to avoid all the sofa bits when they get too much.
And the BBC's swimming pundits have been way better than Eurosport's.
0 -
That sucks a bit, I didn’t realise.
I hope the morning hosts are just keeping the sofa warm for Gabby Logan and Michael Johnson.

Recommend getting discovery for the month, it's only £3.99

Bit of a GB Gold rush so far today...

Like the Jeremy Bates references. It was only the early 90s when bookies gave shorter odds on the Loch Ness Monster being confirmed as real and of Elvis being found alive than on a British guy winning the singles at Wimbledon. Though to be fair, Henman did his bit to change these odds too.

The main complaint I've read is that the Beeb favours studio chit chat over live sport. And it doesn't help that some of the studio pundits are pretty hopeless, e.g. one of those on duty for the swimming. Conversely, hearing the thoughts of Matt Pinsent and Kath Granger at the rowing, immediately after a final, in preference to live coverage of swimming heats is a fair compromise.
