Rayner probably has him working by remote control

It might have been a fantasy, but I suspect many people thought the draft dodger would shit his pants and cry if it ever became reality. He's ended up looking pretty stoic.

There will be a team monitoring news events 24/7, and they will have reported it and the PM will have been disturbed from whatever he was up to. So not surprising really.
Shame the shooter wasn't more accurate, or that Trump hadn't turned his head slightly at that moment.

Oh sure, coz good things always come from successful assassinations 🙄.

As much as Trump winning another term will be an absolute disaster, I really don't think him getting assassinated is the solution.

None have been Trump before though.

So very close. Such a shame...
Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

How did they miss? He’s the proverbial barn door.

I'd argue anyone who thinks the bat shit crazy normalized under trump would simply go away if he was shot is dreaming. A lot of people genuinely think America is a tinderbox right now, I'm not sure I agree on the possibility of Civil war, but if anything is going to result in mass violence, it's Trump getting assassinated.
He needs to lose another election, and the Republicans need to wrestle their party back off the Trumpists.

That's literally how wars start. Give your heads a wobble.

I read that Reagan got an 8 point swing in his favour after being shot. This could be decisive regardless of whether the Democrats bite the bullet and get Biden to stand down.
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
“Some Republicans were quick to blame President Biden over the shooting, accusing him of stoking fears about Trump's potential return to office.
Senator JD Vance, who is thought to be on the shortlist to become Trump’s vice-presidential candidate, said the rhetoric from the Biden campaign had led directly to this incident.
Mike Collins - a Republican congressman - accused the president of “inciting an assassination”.”
Well that’s ok. Presidents are allowed now, aren’t they?

I can't believe they lied to us.

Regan got an 8 point polls boost from nearly getting killed.
It's the time I suspect to select a new democratic nominee. Nothing to lose.
Slight irony in pro gun party having their nominee shot by a party member with a gun.

Where was the good guy with a gun that we always hear so much about?

i see no issue with killing an avowed anti-democracy insurrectionist, who continues to spout hatred, bigotry and calls for 'retribution' against those who stand against his lies
if they'd got hitler in the 1930's, it may well have prevented the slaughter of the 1940s

Killing political opponents is literally what dictators do. It's the antithesis of democracy. Sinking to Trump's level is not justified because he supports violent insurrection. It just legitimises him.
As for killing Hitler fantasies, that's just comforting nonsense. He didn't act alone, nor does Trump.

I think you underestimate their personal influence.

I love the BBC headline "US Secret Service facing questions after Donald Trump survives assassination attempt"
Secret Service debrief: "What do you mean he survived?!"

I do think this idea that this idea that Trump getting assassinated would somehow help things is really for the birds.
0 -
Perhaps some kind of reverse Phineas Gage effect would be of benefit though.
0 -
Well it would stop Trump getting elected.
There's a cult of the leader with these things - Trump like Hitler is a charismatic leader and a good portion of their support dies with them. Yes they don't exist in. a vacuum but i doubt another leader steps straight in. Look at Pym Fortuyn (sp?) when he was killed - his support didn't immediately transfer.
I am not advocating killing Trump

No publicity in constituency politics and he’ll wither and die without that.
