US Politics / Biden thread

The GOP is filled with aspiring nutcases now, so no, they will just position themselves to take over once he's dispensed with elections and finally dies of old age.

Let's hope you are right. Or that something bad happens to the Tangoed One before November

Exactly what is the situation regarding his various court cases and likelihood of something happaning that will either prevent him from running or push public support away from him?

Some kind of gas explosion or catastrophic building failure at the next debate might help.
I reckon there's a fair chance that neither of them will still be with us by time the next Presidential term comes to an end.

The big question for me is why is Biden putting himself through it? Trump is doing it for all sorts of nefarious reasons benifitting himself and those pulling his strings, Biden seems a fairly decent prson so you would think he'd see the value in having stepped aside after this term.

He'd argue his track record as president is pretty stellar.
Which it is, tbf. Despite the vibecession.

Kamala Harris now shorter odds than Biden. Democrats really are doing their best to get Trump elected.

Whatever, they need to get Biden out ASAP to stand any chance.

Dunno. The donors are making rumblings now. Money talks.

Makes me wonder what those thinking a Trump re-election was inconceivable are now thinking.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Four more year of someone who's general physicality is clearly declining. I don't think they have a choice and it's not too late.
"Biden, enjoy your retirement"
For that matter Trump is 78. It's an AI age with analog contenders.

I'm at the despair stage, without the bargaining. 😢

He's quite anti the kind of investing I have specialised finding people for.
This is a real problem for my own business.

Meh, it's a long time before November. I think there's still plenty of stories to play out.

Same, the only good point is that he is then done and dusted unless he somehow changes the Constitution to take out the two term limit. The question is how much dmage he can do, his first term was mainly bluster aalthough his Supreme Court placements have given him the chance to stay out of prison and get re-elected. Hopefully any major harm will be domestic rather than international although it is unlikely to be good for Ukraine.

Made me laugh, Reagan was 77 when he finished office.

Yep, he's done. Trump won't be happy he will have to face a real contender.

This is possibly one of the few things we all seem to agree on.

That's unfortunate, or perhaps very fortunate ironically especially for Zelensky

When I asked him about President Biden's cognitive ability in light of the storm around whether he should run for a second term, the prime minister was forthright.
"We worked at pace and he was on good form with me," said Sir Keir.
When I asked him, twice, whether the criticism of the president was misguided, he told me, simply, "yes", adding: "My own personal view is he was on good form and we went through a lot.
Yeah, right Starmer. I bet he called you Boris and thought you were prime minister of Holland.

This is becoming just bizarre to witness now, he has to step down, someone must be able to stop it somehow.

Donald Trump and his campaign want Joe Biden to stay in the race, according to people familiar with the matter, and have discussed taking steps to ensure they don’t push the president to withdraw amid escalating panic among Democrats following his recent debate performance.
The latest thinking inside Trump’s campaign is for them not to pile on the concern about Biden’s age and mental acuity in case their attack ads push Biden to step aside.

I have to laugh at Trump coming to Biden's defence and saying he shouldn't step down. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work that strategy out.

I wonder if he's always just done shit like this, and it's only after the debate disaster that it becomes world news again.

I love that clip, he had only one thing he had to get right.

It’s not good and I really can’t see Biden winning but it’s a sad indictment of the US that Biden showing signs of his age is a bigger barrier than Trump being found guilty of criminal charges and facing numerous other civil and criminal cases (as well has showing signs of far more severe mental issues).
