Do you think Labour will go for austerity now?

Norfolk SW, Uxbridge, Maidenhead and Witney all lost.

Surprised she didn’t go on a rant about being misunderstood by people who hadn’t understood her amazing economic plans. Not like her to miss a photo opportunity.

So disappointed to wake up and see the Reform on 4 rather than the predicted 13. They’ll put a massive spin on it and go on about vote share but when it comes to what counts they look like having the same number of MPs as Plaid.
The Labour vote percentage suggests that tactical voting really came into play together with Reform doing a good job of taking Tory votes and handing Labour their massive majority.

It’s going to be interesting to see who the Tories elect as their next leader. I suspect it will be Braverman especially as their first priority will be retaking the right leaning votes from Reform.

Labour can spare 50 MPs to defect to the Lib Dems and make them the opposition.

Davey has raised his profile, he may have done it using the Boris ‘acting a clown’ tactic but a lot more people will know him now. Hopefully it will be a case of them now looking like a genuine alternative in future elections. Their vote share was actually half of what it was in 2005 and 2010 though. Another sign of tactical voting working / Reform vote share costing the Tories.

Nice spread of blue in Kent, including Sevenoaks which held. London looked like one of those zombie movies where the map turns progressively redder.
Still we've got Corbyn and Farage for comedy effect and on a positive note, the SNP were nearly wiped out.

Ed Davey's campaign was to have outdoor fun and ice-cream, what are their policies? They won seats as a by product of protest votes. People completely dejected by the Tories but would never vote to the left.

Sorry to disappoint you 😉

She did an interview on 5L a few minutes ago. Surprisingly realistic, albeit with the inevitable layer of "I was let down by those around me".

The two halves of Conservative support have gone their separate ways. Mostly due to failure to deliver against the 2019 promises (except Brexit 😆). Of the ambitious people left, most seem to think they can make a party out of only half that coalition.

At least the BBC have stopped thinking Reform are the main story of the night.

Interestingly Labour got a lower share of the vote than Corbyns Labour did in 2017. Hardly enthusiasm for Labour.

This wasn't a pro labour election, it was an anti Tory election. It's not all that positive. Low turn out, lowest % for the winning party in history for highest majority.
That said, the Tories campaigned against electoral reform earlier in this spell of power, so there's a bit of schadenfreude to be enjoyed.

I wonder if Starmer is getting that "ohhhhh sh1t feeling" yet?

There are a lot of issues and a lot of debt.

You can now walk from Woolacombe to Eastbourne without leaving Leaving LibDem seats.

Gaza issue protest vote independents have as many MPs as Reform. (If you include Corbyn)

Just heard Farage claim to represent the centre right.
You have to give the guy credit.

I didn't hear realism. I heard someone blaming others and citing an inability to deliver on unpopular policies as a reason for losing.
Anyway, she's got hot competition for ex senior Tory media career opportunities, and I think she will get drowned out.
