The documentary was only up to the end of 2021 wasnt it? I guess you can still get the feeling he would like no.35 though.homers_double said:After completelt ignoring this thread and missing the BBC item in October I watched the CAV Netflix documentary this week whilst laid up.
My thought at the end was that he'll have another crack at it, and for once I seem/hope to have proved myself right.0 -

It’s looking like he should have gone. Not😀😀😀😃

Glad Cav could finish it after a perfect lead out. Confidence levels rising 😃

Arise Sir Cav...
(Concerned - didn't work out too well for SBW and there is one more stage to win yet...)
We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

However, I do like that he got it before David Beckham. 🤣🤣🤣
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.1 -
On one hand congrats to Sir Mark. He has higher standing in cycling than Sir Jason and Sir Chris, even they did their stuff in a national jersey. He's also above ir Bradley.
On the other hand, it increases the belief that Chris Froome's considerable achievements are undervalued because he is an 'immigrant'.
Also Chris Boardman got promoted to CBE. He's the one who should really be a Sir as he's doing proper public service work and it would give him some clout.

Going off topic a bit
BEM: Ernest Feargrieve (lead race mechanic, Great Britain cycling team), for services to cycling
Mark Cavendish and Chris Boardman's recognition is long overdue IMO.

Nice to see a knighted cyclist who hasn’t had it on the back of just Olympic Gold medals.

Who can edit the thread title? "Should Sir Mark Cavendish swallow his pride etc"
0 -
Can’t edit titles anymore.
Cav is the greatest ever sprinter in pro cycling. In a sort with over a century of history. Absolutely deserves it.

Can you be an immigrant if you've never lived in this country ?

Clearly it was the Island Games gold medals from 2003 that swung it for Cav, Froome will never have those.
Incidentally, does anyone have any idea what the Team Road Race v Individual Road Race is in the Island games? Is the first some sort of team classification? Is it raced separately? Or is the individual road race a one entrant per Island thing, with no teams involved?
EDIT: It seems like the events were held at the same time and place, so I guess it's a standard road race with an extra medal for a team classification
Oh and completely agree on Boardman deserving a knighthood, a great rider but an even greater advocate

Wonder what the troll thread starter who was a forum member for a whole 2 months, makes of this.

Probably starting threads about GT retiring.....oh hang on.
Think he can now retire with pride.

He must feel really daft that he didn't retire a few years ago

This thread has given so much joy to so many people over the years it's almost going to be a shame when we have to retire it...
Reckon Cav can probably retire this season though. He's just being greedy now.

Is he even going to start tomorrow. It would be an act of complete class to retire on the spot.
0 -
No he will respect the Tour and the race as he should do and hopefully get another win!
1 -
Max respect to the man down bunny hop towards the end too.
4 -
It'd be a huge kick in the teeth to the team to quit before the end of the Tour instead of trying to get more stage wins, especially given the amount of work and investment they've all put in.
It might be Project 35, but they'd love 36.

Coquard, I think.

It would but, on the bright side they have a……train.

Nah, would be a nod to Cipollini and the perfect act of the quitissential egotistical sprinter.
I mean, he won't to that obviously.

Yeah over mads I think

Boardman is massively underrated

Geraint Thomas was interviewed by ITV afterwards and said he'd told Cavendish that he should retire on the spot if he won a stage. The response was something like, "no lad, there's more stages to be won."

I think if he gets to nice they will give him a podium special prize
