I think it's going to be very difficult.... should morkov swallow his pride and retire is the question to my mind . If morkov has it I'll be happily surprised

    It's not impossible I guess .

Mørkøv certainly isn't retiring, but he's leaving Quickstep. Originally it was thought he was going to Uno-X (his brother is a DS there) but he might be going to Astana instead now. There may be a question mark over it all, as one of his goals will be track at the Olympics, so he has to get his season to fit together.

So he has unswallowed (regurgitated?) his pride?

Would have been good to see him on the Champs, regardless of the record or result.
But it’s not going to be in Paris 2024

Nooooo, pride comes before a fall. The Tour made him fall so he didn't have any pride to swallow.

He's like owed more chance of greatness.

Yep know what you mean, but he must be feeling good and confident - his insta post said as much.

Just have to hope he can stay illness and injury free.
Be interesting to see what his race program will be leading up to it.

Had to give it a go didn't he. Still up with the fastest out there, clearly still motivated, family supports the decision, team backing him so yeh, do it! Crashing out was such an anticlimax this year. Shame not to have the chance in Paris but hey ho.

    David Bryant and Phil Taylor

Never heard of David Bryant...his Wikipedia entry is impress though.

Phil Taylor a good shout. Should have had him

Jonathan Edwards's world record has stood for 28 years. Also Alistair Brownlee. Maybe not the best driver, but Lewis Hamilton's stats in F1 are the best.

Very hard to work out who is the best driver, and I really don't like Hamilton, but he's easily top 3 ever.

Anyway, I told my mother in law who is a big Cav fan on the weekend there's no way he'll return, so he's continuing the career long tradition of making me look like a right mug with a Cav prediction.

Finally got around to watching the Netflix documentary last night.
Cav has come back from a very dark place, and credit to Peta for sticking beside him.

Also Vasilis and the Aussie sports psychologist helped him rediscover his love for cycling as he overcame Epstein Barr.

I hope he can have one final successful season and it looks like vino is trying to help get as many ducks in a row for him.

I'd forgotten that they're not doing the standard finish into Paris next year.

So on that basis.....keep going for another 2 years?!

At some point on Tuesday next week Mark may think that not only has he made a terrible mistake, he should actually have jacked it all in much earlier. Part of this is actually cobbled.

He had a very quiet Tour of Turkey. I assume it was just a bit of getting back into racing for him.

Think he was acting as lead out for Ces Bol, not riding for himself.

Great video interview with Michael Mørkøv here, who says Cav rang him from the hospital to get him to Astana. It's all in Danish though.

The slight snorting farty noises seem to be from a rather cynical Brian Holm that thinks a couple of things a very funny (Cav saying Astana is fantastic, like a big family, for instance)

  • After completelt ignoring this thread and missing the BBC item in October I watched the CAV Netflix documentary this week whilst laid up.

My thought at the end was that he'll have another crack at it, and for once I seem/hope to have proved myself right.
