There's a myth in football that 95% of decisions are correct. These numbers are put out by the referees about themselves.
Riiiight.

Is anyone else planning not to watch the England game later today? I thought it would be a good day to go for a ride later this afternoon.

This is why we need VAR. Referees are shit.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

You know there is a referee behind the video screen? The clue is in the acronym
Football is supposed to be fun.

Glasto: Shania Twain, Avril Lavigne et al.
I doubt the Ingerlaand match would impress me much.

It's not much fun when a clearly wrong decision is given either. For example, I watched a striker score when he was probably 3m offside. They then, mistakenly, showed a replay which the whole crowd and the ref saw. Ref then went to the linesman to have a chat as it was so clearly offside, but there was nothing he could do as the goal had already been given.

Back around we circle to trying to define clear and obvious errors!

I think Rick's point is fairly straightforward and correct, before VAR we had terrible decisions and spontaneous celebrations that were legitimate and now we still have terrible decisions with the added kicker of spoiling the fun. May as well go back to terrible decisions from the on field referees.

I don't really mind VAR in many cases, especially with the offsides now being semi automated.
That handball one was ridiculous though, but I think perhaps it's the rule at fault rather than the use of VAR...

Similar excuse here, but we're going out on our bikes. Seems I'm not the only one who thinks there are more enjoyable ways to pass a couple of hours.

Rick is a bit behind though. Wolves submitted this to a premier league vote.

Me but that probably doesn’t count. I think I’ve seen maybe 30 minutes of the whole tournament and reading this thread isn’t giving me FOMO.

Definitely the rules. Arms in an unnatural position? There is nothing natural about defenders running with their hands behind their backs.

Nah. Just got back from cycling 3h over Dartmoor. Wine in the ice bucket, giant wotsits ready to go.

Glad to see them already talking about penalties...

Glad to see Beckham uses Ali express. There must be a russian brand he can endorse?

This won't end up 11 v 11

Depends if he's the type of ref that gives soft first yellows but then has a much higher bar for the second yellow.

Walker is having a shocker

Glad to see that England have in no way adjusted to how strictly the ref is playing.

I think about 50% of fouls are bookings so far. Including dives.

How do England manage to play so deep when they have the ball, and then look massively outnumbered when they lose the ball

I still can't believe we were in the final with (out) Italy last Euro's.

Well the last ten or so minutes was much better I thought. Shame about the first ~30
