I just read that Toyota are planning to introduce an electric car that mimics having a manual gearbox, including a software replication of the car stalling if the driver does not use the clutch correctly.

Car YouTubers are always banging on about manuals, the "involvement of the driving experience". I would rather see car manufacturers concentrate on, weight, battery life and efficiency.

'Real' needs some air quotes around it. There's a guy with a MkI Escort on my road and the engine sounds like something twice the size. I think you even mentioned yours has two settings for loud and quiet.

I once heard a v16 Auto Union driving around Donnington. Yes, I was at the 1994 GP and yes, I saw a substantial part of *that* lap, because I was at the Craner Curves.
Anyhow, the Auto Union had straight exhausts and was louder than the F1 cars of the day, but about 5 octaves lower. It was absolutely incredible. I can still feel it in my chest.

My running fitness. I was going well all last year and the start of this year and the start of this year up to a marathon PB at the end of April. Since then I’ve felt crap, speed has gone and my legs have felt bad on most runs. This week I did a fell race on Tuesday where I had to walk on a lovely smooth downhill slope (around 8-10%) as my legs turned to rubber and afterwards I found my HR had gone over 180 which I haven’t seen in 25 years.
The last two days really have been confused though. I did 5 miles easy yesterday (9:30 miles) and felt terrible. This morning I did a 3 mile jog to parkrun and had to walk a couple of times on a hill. I then somehow ran my 3rd fastest parkrun from 220 in total and came first in my age category before jogging 4.5 miles home that involved a couple more short walks on hills.
For some reason I feel better when running at faster paces

They’re a different breed. Seem to be a lot farmers, I think the guy who won on Tuesday is too and you’d never think he was a decent athlete to look at him. There was a woman (a very good one who wins overall not just first woman) who dislocated her hip somehow after about 1.5 miles. I saw her limping back to the start (she eventually got forced to stop and had to be taken off by mountain rescue).
I just do the odd one for a change from the tarmac.

The only fell runner I’ve heard who was a farmer was Joss Naylor. The ones I know are retired banker, painter and decorator, care assistant, teacher, university lecturer. Social work tutor, ex GP practice manager, nurse consultant, expedition organiser and so on.

Posh area 😉 They are definitely a different breed though, my aim on Tuesday was to not get beaten by the guy in tailored shorts and polo shirt. He was probably wearing a 30 year old pair of Walsh’s too but I didn’t look. Running’s equivalent of audax.

Are these noctilucent clouds?
I heard there were some around last night and that they might be visible again tonight. Initially I was going to go out with the camera but as the sky was so overcast I didn’t think it was worth it then walking the dogs I saw these were much brighter than the rest of the cloud cover and quite silvery. I assumed the cloud cover was too low but the rubbish one handed phone snap has picked up something in the sky so must be higher that I thought. Lots of light pollution and the photo doesn’t really show how much they stood out.

Why is scaffolding so expensive? It's clearly one of the most sustainable industries where literally 99% of their product is used again and again and again with the exception of the odd board or two that need replacing.

Storage costs and there’s a bit of skill in doing it properly. I think there was also quite a shortage a few years ago. The market sets the rate as with all trades.
