It's also quicker and easier to fly east than west. Which probably rules out LA.

Possibly Guam only has a military airport under US jurisdiction.

Saipan is a US territory as well. He could have flown on a commercial flight to LA and then on another to Australia. Instead he has chartered a plane that has flown over loads of countries and stopped in Bangkok to refuel. It also involves a judge in Saipan.

Guam is a US territory and has a slightly bigger airport. (Source me).

It is US soil although they have special perks such as their votes not having any weight in the electoral college. I think there are also some other subtle differences, but if that is the case here, then I'm intrigued what they are.

Just tried to book a GP appointment, first time I've needed one for anything since a video consultation for an infected wound back during the original lockdown. I got told all appointments are taken for the next 2 weeks, they don't take any for further than that so it's basically a case of calling first thing each morning in the hope you get one that is released for 2 weeks from that day or that someone has cancelled. Absolute shit show, no doubt all the slots are taken by the usual hypochondriacs who know the system as they're there constantly. You constantly get told to go to the GP if you have something that is of concern and how bad men are for getting checked and then when you actually try it's impossible!

lol that has been standard for the last decade and a half, what kind of service have you been getting?!?!

Mine just involves an annoyingly long web form. Then a doctor calls on the same day.

Funny, never had a problem getting an appointment with my GP, whether in person or a phone consultation. Although I try to use my private cover where possible to keep the pressure off the NHS.

It's in the wrong thread sorry - was meant to be in the annoying thread! I hardly use the GP, I've maybe needed to get an appointment 3 times in the last 20 years. I've generally found them shite to deal with (took months of making a nuisance of ourselves before our daughter was finally referred to a specialist who gave a suspected diagnosis in minutes that resulted in her having a CT scan straight away then being taken straight to another hospital for an MRI that evening and 11 hours of brain surgery the next working day followed by 18 months of chemo, the GP had tried to fob us off with it being acid reflux then stress due to starting school) but I have always been able to get an appointment when I finally get through albeit maybe a week or two later. Why limit the booking system to two weeks? I'm not in need of urgent medical attention and can wait but the issue isn't going to disappear in the meantime and it's going to be like trying to book Glastonbury tickets when the switchboard opens in the morning then every other morning until I finally get lucky.

Because otherwise when you rang this morning you'd have been told it was booked solid for the next 8 months?

And far more of those appointments would end in no shows as they were made so long ago

Would it though? There must be people calling who have something that needs sorting within two weeks or they'll end up in hospital so a 3 or 4 week appointment isn't really any use then. Agree on the no show risk though. It feels like some kind of exclusive club where the 'regulars' get priority treatment and prospective members have to wait for someone to die off to be admitted.

Have you tried asking for a telephone appointment?

The chartered flights from the UK to Australia, via Thailand and the Northern Mariana Islands, have cost more than $500,000 (£393,715). Assange's wife says the Australian government has footed the bill, but the campaign will repay it. He was not allowed to fly commercial, she added

Is that where you have to book an appointment to phone for an appointment? 😉

Not sure it would be any help and it wasn't mentioned as an option. Ironically, the video appointment I had during lockdown was probably the best experience I've had with them. I can supposedly book through the NHS app, I did try earlier before phoning but it said no appointments which I now assume is due to them being fully booked. I'm not sure what time they get released on the app each day but that might be my best option as the Boomers will be going for the phone lines.

Seeing a job advert where one of the 'benefits' is that they pay salary every 4 weeks rather than monthly. Is that really a benefit when most people have their outgoings set up for a specific date each month? For me it would be a negative. Some of the other supposed benefits I see advertised also make me think the company are a bunch of cheapskates who seem to want to attract thick people e.g. '30 days leave (including Bank Holidays)' so basically 22 days which is pretty low, 4% employer pension contribution when they have to provide at least 3%, free tea and coffee in the office whoopee. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess Rick's clients aren't getting attracted by these generous offers.

Why do fans get prickly when I call the round ball game “Soccer”?

It seems to really wind people up 🤔

    Definitely not a benefit.

TBH that's what annoyed me when I reached state pension age to find they pay it every 4 weeks so the date creeps forward each month. You could fool yourself it's nice getting 13 payments a year but I'd rather get 12 slightly larger payments at the same time each month. My other occupational pensions pay out monthly so why can't the DWP manage it? As you say, the rest of your financial life revolves around a monthly cycle...

Back when I worked for a multinational I used to be jealous of my German colleagues who got an extra months salary every December though...

If you do manage to get a telpehone appointment the GP will either prescribe something or say that you need to see a doctor . . . I don't know whether the latter would circumvent the need to book through the usual channels but would have though that a doctor telling you to see a doctor probably carries a bit more weight than an individual trying to book an appopintment

People who take young kids to Glastonbury (or any festival).

I have seen people carrying tiny babies up at the greenfield at Glastonbury, that can't be fun.

Although, to be fair, Glastonbury has a kids field and family camping so it's not that surprising that people take their kids.

If they didn't I suspect there wouldn't be much of a crowd for Mr Tumble at Camp Bestival.

Why some links go through the "Attention - you are leaving Bike Radar" page and others don't. Also annoying.

Whereas Nadhim Zahawi is a taxdodger who claims on taxpayer expenses the costs of heating his stables. True hero indeed.
