Who's sticking their head in the sand? I'm not the one pretending deporting at best a couple of hundred people is a 'plan' to reduce immigration. Mainland Europe has been dealing with increased migration for at least the last decade. I don't think there's any sudden realisation there.

It's a question of how much - your view that we can have unlimited immigration is clearly not a supportable one. And at present I would say net immigration is too high.
If you want lower house prices you need to change tack.

At least you can be anti LTN so no one wants to cycle or walk so everyone is more inactive and less fit because they drive instead. That’ll help the burden on the state when they’re older. At least their lungs wil enjoy the added pollution too.
The demographics do not work so immigrants are the solution.
Blocking housebulding only makes it more expensive to live and puts locals off having children as they literally can’t afford the space.

If you really want to wind th nimbies up, tell them that you're going to build loads and loads more houses so that they are more affordable, and it's immigrants who are going to do the building.

We've been around this so many times now. I'm not bothered whether you agree or disagree on the costs/benefits of immigration. One of my business partners is an immigrant, about a third of our staff are immigrants; 10-20% of our clients are immigrants; and the London construction industry would barely exist without immigration. So I think it's fairly obvious why my views are what they are.
Given your contrary view, I do find it odd that you support a government that has increased regular immigration massively (while still making it harder for me to find the staff I need), has seemingly deliberately created a crisis in the asylum system and is on a mission to find the most expensive possible way to house and transport a few hundred people. This hardly seems consistent with someone reducing government spending to facilitate tax cuts.

If they're all as rich as you say then it'll be a mixture of private medical cover and their vast accumulated wealth. If they're not as rich as you say then I guess you'll be picking up the tab via in increased taxation, leaving you even less to buy a big house with 😉

I have quite a few in my department as you might expect.
As I said above, some is OK but too many is not OK and the current govt needs to do better. You seem to be using the benefits of some to justify too many. I'd be happy if we want back to the levels seen in the last tory administration in the 1990s net immigration was just over 100k per year but growth was healthy. How do you explain that?
There is also the point that many of the ones we deal with in our ones of work are much more likely to be net contributors. Unlike those who turn up in small boats. It important that we can choose who comes to live and work here for that reason.

Lets not forget the generation about to retire are projected to have received 25% more from the state than they paid in.

If they're rich they'll generally be going for private medical treatment. And care home fees will largely be on their account.

Honestly, go look up the the cost of it all.
Genuinely. Go look up the life time net tax take of boomers. You’ll see.
Go look at the demographics and explain how the workforce is going to support the rest of society.
The over 65s are digging their own grave if they vote for less immigration.

Didn't spot that, but would point out that unemployment is at historically low levels. Immigration was steeply increasing throughout the 90s and 00s. GDP per capita was going strong all the way through to 2008. The demographics have shifted to our disadvantage since then. Roughly an extra 5% of the population is over a retirement age as compared to 30 years ago.

Entire viability of HE rests on its ability to sell outside the UK. Madness that one of our best exports is endlessly portrayed as a bad thing by the actual government. I guess dressing up to sit in a JCB is more fun than standing in front of some new student halls.
