To what bit of the equation exactly? Stopping the boats is incredibly difficult. If it's the case that the Rwanda scheme is moving a portion on to Ireland, it's still not actually stopped the boats has it?
I'd still be much more restrained on offering visas to dependants of international students. I'd never have introduced a rule saying you could hire immigrants on a 20 percent discount either.

Well over a million visas issued (excluding another 2 million short visits) and asylum applications are <10% of that. You keep asking if we should let everyone in as though that isn't already government policy.
Imagine thinking that the Conservatives gave the tiniest shit about immigration.

Reducing illegal immigration. Clearly its better if they don't try to come over illegally in the first place, although if they move on quickly tomspmewhere like Ireland then that also helps the end result.
I note that famously welcoming EU member state Ireland seems to have a similar view on this to the nasty xenophobic UK.

No. I'd like to make it more straightforward for employers to recruit and retain the staff they need, not expect small businesses to act as part time immigration officers. What we have at the moment is saying one thing while doing the opposite, which is driving away the people we need. The whole asylum thing is a complete side show: pissing money up the wall to deport about 1% of applicants all while pushing people towards the trafficking gangs they claim to want to put out of business.

Conflating illegal immigrants with asylum seekers is a standard tactic in this ‘debate’. Not sure if it’s deliberate or people genuinely don’t understand the difference. It’s not helped by severely limiting asylum applications being made before entering the UK.

When you say illegal immigration, what do you actually mean, because I feel like that's important here.
Do you mean people coming over on inflatable boats and claiming asylum or other legal rights to remain.
Or do you mean people coming over here and, effectively, disappearing to work in illegally.
Current scores on the doors for the Rwanda policy are 0 sent to Rwanda but 6 Rwandans granted asylum. A truly fantastic use of money

The housing of applicants in hotels or rented barges also doesn't suggest anyone is interested in reducing costs in the asylum system. Quite the opposite in fact: the aim seems to be to deliberately engineer the most expensive crisis possible.
Personally I think it's mad that asylum applicants are not allowed to work as this just makes the whole thing more expensive.
Despite assorted Home Secretaries best (worst) efforts to manufacture a crisis spending on the entire asylum system is less than 0.5% of overall government spending. It's a side show. The number of people is small relative to overall immigration and it doesn't cost much.

The government is committed to spending 0.5% of GDP on foreign aid. It includes spending on costs associated with asylum seekers in the UK in that figure.

It's about 4.8% of the annual education budget. The Rwanda scheme is ~10% of the asylum system budget which illustrates just how careful they are with money. Bibby Stockholm is an absolute steal at ~£22m to house 500 people.
