Good plan apparently. Hypocrisy or something, she’s been nasty to Tories who’ve done bad things.

I am not sure they do! It seems like the last act of the damned, just go around throwing stones at everyone else in the hope you will inflict some damage somewhere. It is just an act of spite really.

I am pretty furious about how they’ve “salted the earth” on HS2 and if it was up to me I’d want something to be done to hold the feet of the people responsible to the fire, though I recognise it’s not practical

It's stunning that by many accounts HS2 is going to end up with a slightly worse service between London and Manchester.

They are certainly starting to behave like a party in opposition taking the ‘holding to account role’. The irony of the ‘she demanded Johnson resign before the Partygate inquiry so we are getting her back’ argument is that she was calling out hypocrisy on a grand scale committed by the PM himself. There were quite a few Tories also calling for Johnson to go at the same time.
It is coming across as petty vindictiveness and bullying.

They've acted liked the Party of opposition for years to the extent they keep making u-turns to undo their own policies and try to blame the previous policy on the woke lefties. It's bizarre and I sometimes wonder whether they've managed to persuade themselves that Labour have been running the country for the last 15 years.

Absolutely, and a number of them seem to have this weird fascination with Rayner. As the Nick Boles letter highlights, there seems to be a sense of misogyny and classism at stake in how a number of Tory politicians respond to her.

Indeed, at the last election they sank Labour, had a huge majority and have done nothing with it just squabbled amongst the selves.

I suspect it's worked. People who don't pay much attention will say they're all as bad as eachother.

Her offer to resign if found guilty if a crime either her brass necking it or the people advising her have spotted that the tax underpayment is extremely unlikely to treated as a criminal offence. And it does look like her electoral misdeclaration is past the statute of limitations, so even if she did commit an offence, she can't now be done for it.
So quite possible that she could be be guilty on both counts but no criminal offence is brought. So stays in the job but with her reputation for honesty and transparency damaged and still looking like a leftie hypocrite.

Now the Labour party is being shy about it - wonder why?

So that when there’s no case to answer it makes the tories look even more desperate than people thought possible.

Starying to u-turn. Very on brand!

If they withhold the evidence it's hard to say for sure. Why do you think they are withholding the evidence?

Never said that the tax point was a criminal matter - pretty sure I clarified that it was unlikely to be criminal further upthread.
And on the electoral roll point there's a difference between not committing an offence and not getting done for it.
But keep trying to have a pop at me in the absence of a decent argument to defend Angela 'Two Homes' Rayner 😉

You seemed very sure that the police were going to take action despite people pointing out that the time limits meant this was unlikely. I don't think there's a need to defend her - it is up to someone to prove she has done something wrong and mud-slinging accusations by a slightly dodgy senior Tory politician based on local gossip doesn't really meet the threshold of evidence. It's strange, I can't remember which of the Tory politicians you were defending before but you were then adamant that they should be innocent until proven guilty.

This is rich from the guy with no evidence 😁

"Withholding evidence" 😂
Get a grip Stevo nobody owes the papers any evidence. They are not the police. If some old tosser accused you of something in a book and people asked you to publicly post bills, correspondence, tax documents, whatever evidence to prove it was nonsense, I suspect you'd tell them to go and swivel.

Seems insane to imagine that Starmers team wouldn't have had this analysed from the off to see if she was legit, and then would sit back and let process take its course once they were content she was clear.
If she was guilty of anything he'd have binned her off, no question.
He's letting the (stupid) Tories and the (stupid) press let themselves look stupid is my guess. Whether that's tactically better than shutting it down early doors by pandering to them, I don't know.

No need for me to seem sure - they are investigating. Fact.

I've posted evidence and you've ignored or unsuccessfully tried to dismiss it. Have another read upthread.

If they have information and aren't giving it out, what would you prefer to call it?
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
How do you know what they have disclosed to the police. As I said above and others have, they will have looked it to it. Handed things that were requested by the police and are now sitting back watching the tories keep digging that hole.

'Not responding to Tory trolling', I'd call it. Let the police process play out, which I suspect will be like 'Beergate', as previously mentioned.

But if the information helped put her in the clear, then I'm sure they would release it. A bit like her tax advice. However...

For evidence you would need to see her tax records and check the electoral roll. I'm guessing you haven't. When or where some supposed neighbours saw her is not evidence.

She’ll be in the clear as soon as the police confirm no action. She may even have given them such supporting evidence. As you said on the previous case when it was a Tory in the court of public opinion she is innocent until proven guilty. Why the policy u turn?
