Interesting discussion on this in the pre Paris Roubaix breakaway.
Former riders making the point that organisers have to help riders be safer as they won't help themselves
They have the mentality of "I know how dangerous it is but it won't happen to me"
They've got directors in their ears telling them to be at the front and their livelihoods depend on being valuable and getting the next contract

19 year old Jan Christen takes Stage 2 at Abruzzo, went solo and never really got much of a gap but rode strongly which, combined with a poorly organised chase, team mates sitting in behind and GC riders mainly being content with some time on rivals it was enough to hang on. First pro win of many I suspect.

Paul Double is a new name on me despite being a Brit and not particularly young, 10th on the stage and well placed on GC. I'd also missed Sivakov moving to UAE I think, I probably saw it at the time but forgot.

Funny, I was reading the cyclist article on Rocacorbara last night and I believe he (Paul Double) was KoM at the time it was written.

Cosnefroy takes Brantse Pijl in a sprint from a small group.

Decent finish to the race, solo rider van den Berg caught with 500m to go thanks to Blackmore pulling it back for Teuns but Cosnefroy times his effort along the barriers really well to win by a bike length and Wellens third.

The van den Berg interview after was quite something. Basically said his sprint was his strongest attribute and he'd totally effed up by attacking solo

Blackmore is having a great spring....and drafted into the WT team gets a great result. I wonder if we've seen the back of him in XC MTB (currently the U23 British XCO champion).

Caught the last 12km of the Classic Grand Besancon Doubs (not one I’ve seen before) and it was a decent race. Adne Holter of Uno X was just going clear of two breakaway companions after he apparently attacked at KM0. He hit the start of the final climb at 4km to go with over a minute to spare and I thought he might hang on but Lenny attacked at the start of the climb and caught him with 2km left. Martinez looked like he was going to solo to victory but got caught with 600m to go. However, he had a bit more left and managed to comfortably win in the end. Holder managed to hang on for 12th 48” down.

Chaos in Tour of Alps as first Harper crashes off on a bend, up the pavement and hitting his head on a light column then a few seconds later by O’Connor doing the same but not hitting the light. O’Connor straight back up, Harper stayed down but remained conscious, now sat up and getting treatment.
Simon Carr currently solo up front with a minute lead and 22km to go (Harper had nearly caught him).

O’Connor got away pretty lightly by the look of it although there’s a bit of blood on his face. It was an odd road layout. He seemed to hit a bump first but it would have been hard to judge the kerb position at speed with the pavement being nearly as wide as the road.

Looks like it was 2 lanes wide, a drainage gully but then a pavement/cycle path of the same colour. Arriving at pace it might have just looked like 3 lanes wide. Harper flipped on the gully and went into a lamp post head first.
Whoever's doing risk assessments these days needs to have a rethink.
