S*** Small Races 2024

Easy win for Hermans at Itzulia today. Another big crash, this time within 3k of the finish took out Ayuso but he rolled in eventually en velo and with both hands on the bars.
Roglic fell about 40k out which left Remco to Roglify the bonus seconds.

Scheldeprijs definitely belongs here. Merlier wins comfortably in the bunch sprint, a bit of a crash in the final km just in the corner of the screen probably affected a few riders (only saw the Uno X rider go down but not much of a bunch left). Philipsen took second, didn't hear my inspired alternative PTP choice get a single mention despite the commentator seemingly having been to commentary school with Carlton and naming the entire peloton as potential winners.

I didn’t like how they both decided that Roglic must be concussed, because he was shaken up, so should be pulled out of the race.
Not sure how you can be certain of your diagnosis off a picture on a monitor.
Especially as neither managed to notice the huge rip in his kit on the right hip and the large patch of road rash.
For this reason, I wouldn’t be surprised were he a non starter tomorrow, rather than concussion.

Rog just can't help but make things tricky for himself all the time.
I feel Ineos did an awful lot of work for very little gain.

To be fair the cameras didn’t show the damage to his right side till he’d been back riding for a good while.

What's the point of Ineos ATM?

To do an awful lot of work for very little gain. Job done!

I actually think they had one of their better days today. You could see that the they had a plan and they had a man. If the finish line had been 250 yards furher up the road, and nobody had told the other teams, they might have won.

Despite all the changes at the top they still seem rudderless

They need to go get Phillipsen or they'll be pointless for the next few seasons. They don't have anyone who's a genuine top road rider.

Hearing Sir Jim on the GTCC podcast, sounds like they will be developing riders, not bringing in big names. Could be a lean few years ahead.
Rod Ellingworth said they hadn't changed the way things are done since the beginning. Looks like they need to find some innovation quick!

Developing riders sounds good, shame they don't have a dev team

Very odd for the only British World Tour team. There's a fair amount of talent they could have scooped up.
It would be good to see them supporting UK races, the domestic scene could really do with it. I know they've said they'll support the ToB, but I don't know exactly how.

Well they used the GB track team as their talent factory for ages, with the Wiggins team as a dev team, but they're a bit more international now and young UK riders are also more open to riding for other teams

The managers and players being linked with ManYoo suggests he's trying to do it on the cheap there too.

Horrible crash in Itzulia with both Vingegaard and Roglic down injured.

Roglic and Jonas both off the road into a concrete ditch ...looks rough

There’s been a really bad crash.
Roglic down again, but worst off looks to be Jonas Vingegaard.
Looks to be in a really awful way.

About 6 riders flew off road

Evenepoel also down, but he crashed on grass, but Vingegaard crash into a concrete gully. He talking, but not moving.

Remco, Jonas and Primoz.

Evenepoel looks like he's done his left collarbone.
0 -
Really weird crash, looks like a mass mis-judgement of the corner?
0 -
Collarbone for Evenepoel, so he’s out too. A UAE rider isn’t moving. A Trek rider sitting up but ripped up.
Uran in a mess too.

Roglic looks dazed but basically ok .....waiting for concussion check ...no urgency to get racing ambulances for Jonas definitely
Remco collarbone
Rider in ditch not moving

Absolute carnage. That's really going to dent some hopes for the TDF even if it is 3 months away.
