getting a bit like tennis now… the top 3 or 4 win all the races that matter and the rest fight for the scraps… there is a gulf between VdP, Pogacar, Vingegaard and the rest, which sadly now even includes Van Aert

Wout Poels claims he was punched and elbowed by him apparently at Catalonia. I’ve only seen headlines.

That's how things seem. The Giro looks like a foregone conclusion, as does the Tour. Paris Roubaix likewise. Accidents permitting of course.

Less than five years ago, Bernal was going to win the next five Tours. Then Pogacar was going to win the next five. Now it's Vingegaard's turn. Things change.

It looked like that a bit last year in Womens racing with SD Worx but this year they are getting worked over a bit so far.

MvdP is unrivalled in his RVV consistency however.

Despite My Man winning, it was a 2/10 race. Women's race was better (but not by much).

Think that DQ is harsh - he's moving to overtake at the end of 250k - Pollitt isn't overlapping at that point and had every chance to go the other side.

Come on, there's moving to overtake and there's veering across the road to try and prevent riders passing you. This was definitely in the latter camp.

Agree with AndyP - he moved almost 3/4s of the way across the road forcing the other riders even further to the right. As clear a relegation as you will see.

It's the equivalent of sticking your leg out in the penalty box, and the striker going down without contact......You've given the referee a chance to make a wrong decision.

Matthews starts his sprint and deviates across the road towards the barriers.........You're supposed to sprint in a straight line - he didn't. It's harsh, but what's he doing?

Didn't they show it on Eurosport?

I wanted to watch it last night when I finally had time, but couldn't find it. .... :-(

I have Eurosport here in Germany, can't think this matter though.

I have discovery+ in Germany. It's the same price as GCN+ was. Not sure if they share the rights with Eurosport or if it's all the same company. It's on discovery+ as a VOD (and live).

I do think the new course is not as good as the old course in that I can't really think of a race where the strongest hasn't won since the new course was put in.

I'm not sure that stacks up. Bettiol in 2019 was widely considered on here to have been lucky as no one considered him a threat and he was able to establish a race winning gap before the chase started in earnest.

You could also argue that Asgreen beat a superior Van Der Poel in 2021, and Van Der Poel beat a superior Pogacar in 2022.

I think the new course has a harder finish, so it has all but eliminated the lucky winner which you used to get every so often when the finish was in Ninove.

Yeah I dunno, I think Bettiol was arguably the stronger rider that year - his attack was quite something. And I don't agree that Asgreen was inferior to MvdP or that Pog was superior in 2022.

Even if you're right though, it's a much smaller cast of possible winners than it used to be. I think that is also reflected in MvdP's dominance - podiums in the last 5 editions.
