...at a cost of $112,000 interest per day. Doesn't sound like much for him but then it is $1,120,000 for 10 days...

Donald Trump appears to be scrambling for funds to pay a $464m (£365m) fraud fine. Could the stock market ride to his rescue?
Trump Media, which runs the social media platform Truth Social, is poised to become a publicly listed company, with shareholders of Digital World Acquisition Corp set to vote on Friday on whether to acquire it.
Mr Trump would have a stake of at least 58% in the merged company, worth more than $3bn at Digital World's current share prices.

Kind of makes you understand why he didn't go back to X.

Reading through that it would appear he is quite happy for his investors/fans to lose their money.
That would be quite humorous.

step one: sucker c. 400,000 people into investing billions of their money in a spac (shell company)
step two: spac merges with majority trump-owned loss-making company - with a compliant board, controlled by trump family/allies
step three: trump gets the suckers' billions
have to admire his brazen ability to exploit maga suckers

Well, this is going to be interesting. If he's got $500m cash for campaigning, I think Tish James would like most of it.

Here's the low down on that. Notice it would be the same judge that authorises the seizing of the bank accounts that issued the $454m penalty:
“If he does not have funds to pay off the judgment, then we will seek judgment enforcement mechanisms in court, and we will ask the judge to seize his assets,” she told ABC News last month. And James has already taken preliminary steps: She has filed the Manhattan judgment in neighboring Westchester County, a precursor to any enforcement actions there.
But even if Trump fails to obtain a bond by the deadline, don’t expect to see James or her deputies immediately marching over to Trump Tower to change the locks.
For one thing, seizing Trump’s assets will require James to go back to court to get a judge’s approval to gain access to Trump’s property.
And for another, James likely wouldn’t start by targeting his real estate holdings, said legal experts. She is more likely to begin by seizing his bank accounts, which would give her direct access to cash, rather than an asset she would need to liquidate.
In order to seize a defendant’s bank accounts, a judgment creditor typically first goes through a discovery process to identify where they are. Then the creditor asks the banks to freeze the accounts — and asks a judge to have the money in the accounts turned over.
In this case, the judge making that call would be Justice Arthur Engoron, who imposed the $454 million penalty last month and whom Trump has repeatedly assailed in the courtroom and in various other public settings.
The approval process regarding asset seizures is typically very quick, said Mitchell Epner, a former federal prosecutor, and usually consists of a brief hearing and then a decision within about a week. Trump will have “extraordinarily limited appeal rights” on Engoron’s decisions, Epner said. “I’ve never seen anybody pursue them.”
Of course, seizing Trump’s bank accounts is unlikely to produce enough cash to satisfy the full judgment — Trump’s lack of liquidity is precisely the reason he’s struggling to post the bond in the first place. On Friday, Trump claimed on social media that he has almost $500 million in cash, but in court filings, his lawyers have made clear that he lacks the cash to satisfy the judgment.

If he persuades his lapdogs in the SC to give him presidential immunity, it'll be the King Donald Bible.

OK, it's got a few more users than BR forum, but not sure how the company is (supposedly) worth billions:

Was it valued by the guy caught over-valuing stuff?
As posted before, the muppets that will invest/get caught out/lose out are his supporters. This is funny.

I came to the conclusion that his re election is impossible. He lost last time round and I can’t see him having aquired any extra vote in the past four years. He still has strong support within the hard liner republicans, but he needs to get some last-time-Democrats to vote for him, which seems unimaginable. If anything, it will be an even bigger defeat, as some republicans will probably abstain.
On the other hand, rhe fear of his return might prompt people to vote for Biden as the least worst option.
Surprised there is no strong independent young candidate, best chance in a long time

Why would anyone waste money running as an independent? They’d stand no chance of getting in (and could end up losing Biden votes that would help Trump win).

Would like to point out, he has managed to do this, partly by getting the amount charged down to $175m.

I was in the minority 8 years ago when I said Trump would win (including a healthy debate with a Professor of Sociology from U of Chicago who was adamant Trump could not win!).
Agree with the above, Trump was a one trick pony and I don't think he has the same level of support he thinks he has. You never know for certain, but I think Biden will win with a healthier margin than last time.
Interesting listening to Steve Bannon on The News Agents podcast recently. He said they were going to try and get more male voters from black and hispanic groups as he thinks the anti woke crap plays well with them. The theory is they can make up numbers here. Would be very suprised if they did.

Works both ways surely?

Only the bond required to launch an appeal has been reduced, right? If he loses the appeal, it's still the big number he needs to pay.
0 -
I suspect, given the challenges he is facing to pay it, the appeal will probably work.
There is a lot of wishcasting going on with Trump and his legal difficulties.
At best, his ridiculous behaviour in court will hurt is electoral changes. That's really all you can hope for. The rest is an irrelevance.

I suspect he'll lose this one - it feels open and shut, but the fine will be reduced and he'll say that is effectively a win.
He's now got money if he can get it out of that hopeless app before it completely tanks.
Got to admire the guy, he's like a criminal Houdini.

exactly… nobody wants these two for president, so there has never been a better chance for a strong independent candidate, who might not need as much funding as the others… you could pretty much run a campaign online and only raise funds to travel around the country… wouldn’t cost more than a few millions. Parties have big machines to run an independent can be lean.

Wasn't what I meant. Independents will take votes away from both Biden and Trump. There's no logic that this favours Trump more than Biden.
seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
no, there isn’t… I am just surprised nobody is spotting the obvious opportunity there

That's not true, if people are still favouring Trump, they genuinely want him to win. What issue do you think would cause someone who prefers Trump to any Democrat to vote "not Republican"?
