Seemingly trivial things that annoy you

Not to mention that your insurance premium will increase next year as a result of having made a claim.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Well yeah. I live on a street where this obviously happens so why wouldn’t they. I would if I was underwriting me.

This is becoming a bit of a no brainer.
Have to say I was pleasantly surprised when I moved out from the London 'burbs to the current place, my car insurance premiums fell by about 30%.

Must say that this is becoming more and more evident.

Honestly, half a mill within commuting distance of work does not get you anywhere much more salubrious, especially when you really need more bedrooms for a bigger family.
Most houses here are occupied by similar set ups, highish income professional young families, with maybe 20% oldies and 15% renters.

I assume it was the oldies who keyed the car?

Not sure what to suggest other than it sounds like you need a bigger house budget.

I've suggested a change of job location before but that didn't go down well. Somethings gotta give.

True.
Also being agony uncles for Rick may become trivially annoying if this carries on.

Telling him to just move somewhere nicer or earn more is pretty peak boomer chaps

Got any better ideas?

Ditch the car ... obviously, but I am feeling a bit sympathetic to his predicament.

Car share scheme in Cambridge? Hire a family sized car when you need it?

I said better ideas, BB...

Not a great idea, but it is peak Millennial...

My bit of south London has a far lower crime rate than Cambridge, but someone still stole the catalytic converter from the neighbours' hot hatch. House prices would just about fit in Rick's budget, I think. It's the wrong side of London for northern relatives, but we are on Thameslink.

I'd suggested moving somewhere nicer and earning less but with more net disposable.
Apparently giving up London is a non-starter so London prices and commuting will continue.

You can, just not where you're living now.

So I can’t have a nice car because people vandalise it so I should move somewhere where I can’t afford one anyway. Gotcha.
tbh I blame the vandal rather than myself.

It's not that one thing, it is the accumulation of all your complaints. Too small a house, parking and commuting.
I've probably forgotten a few.

So would we, but the vandals aren't going to move...

I don't think you can escape mindless vandalism... we've had nice shiny cars keyed in swanky Topsham, and a days ago some toerag trampled a whole line of blooming daffodils that had been planted in memory of someone.

You probably have badgers. For the daffodils at least.

The person who reported it seemed fairly certain it was human toerags. Maybe they'd been chopped rather than trampled (so maybe we have really really swanky badgers too, with sharp knives).

This probably doesn't help either, but after you've had two small children set about the back seats it won't be all that nice anyway. Child seats are really good at grinding crumbs into the upholstery. Plus the random evacuations.

From what I can remember, rural vandalism was worse - more time to really set about something without being disturbed.

If anyone ever plants something in memory of me, I think a particularly sturdy pyracantha should do the job. Or maybe something highly irritant.
