Fuel Consumption - Part 2

hah, mine has 90BHP and is giving a lower fuel economy than mine actually does. fuel economy isnt just for those who are tree huggers and care about the environment, its for the ones who are skint and need to watch what money goes out

There a Golf GT-i Diesel, that doesn't actually say diesel on it anywehere, but it's got a silver badge instead of a red one, or vice versa. I think the 07 model has some silly power for a diesel, 200 horsepower or above I think.

is it the GT golf you're on about, the 170hp one? I had a drive in one last week, was lovely but it's still a golf!

The VAG (VW Audi group) TDi engines can be remapped to produce over 200BHP, you do need an uprated clutch and a big wallet to replace tyres frequently though!
The 1.9 TDi Cupra Ibiza produces more torque than a standard Porsche Boxter [:O]

standard porsche boxter is lame though[:p]

We have a Leon TDi, with all the Cupra R bits on it. It's knocking on 200bhp & 330lb/ft.
You don't need a new clutch if you are carefull. I'll agree about the tyres though. And fuel economy...

A good car is not just about outright power. The Boxster is a very good drivers car, no matter how ooooooh! it looks.

-C-, have you ever posted on the Seat Forums? Just wondered as they seem to recommend an uprated clutch if you go over 200BHP.

I was refering to its power with that comment, still wouldn't say its a good "drivers car" though.

yeah but a standard boxsters not what i'd call quick either!
Just depends on your definition of fast I guess.
know of any faster production diesels?

Anything with a 170hp VAG Tdi are pretty quick.
Astra SXI TDI 150 (Or whatever its called) is nippy, shame about the rest of it though.

anyway those other diesels go ok too. I know diesels can be powerful engines but despite the success of the R10, no one really makes a proper fast diesel (ie 0-60 in 5 secs)

Audi/Lamborghini did shoehorn a V10 diesel into the back of a Gallardo.

Meh, average at best.
There wasn't much choice before, but they will soon get left behind now diesel is becoming more mainstream.

Yeah, I use Cupranet a little bit, not much, specific owner forums are too full of people trying to suggest the (particular make) is the best car in the world [:D]
It's not the BHP that does the clutches on them, its the huge low down torque that puts the strain on it. We seem to be lucky with ours, the previous owner was so anal about it, it had an easy life. As long as you don't floor it from low RPM's its fine & won't slip, feed it in a bit & its just as quick & a lot kinder, with no need to uprated clutches.
Ours has done 20k, and its only just started slipping when you really go for it. Plenty of life left in it [:D]

Yeah I realise it's the torque that could kill the std clutch, I should have worded it better!
Mine has done 18k, clutch seems ok so far, but I've only got a measly 230ftlb of torque [;)]

I get around 35-45mpg in town but up north on the open road [:D] between 40 and sometimes I've got as much as 50. Not bad with 4 ppl in the car and spending most of the time with my foot planted. It's a 1.1 don't worry its nescessary!0
-
its not necesarry to have your foot planted in a 1.1 with for poepl in it. mine could happily cruise at 80 in 4th with 5 people including me in it and foot was no where near the floor. my new car i havtn tried it
