I thought about that, but by the time I got the console and the HD drive there wasn't any saving. not-to-mention when you attach the HD drive to the 360 it makes it a stupid L shape not exactly practical.

And the 360 controlers are too big, I don't know how some people get on with them, I take a large size riding glove and find them too bulky.

I have always found PS's better than other offerings, but I have a life and don't tend to lose sleep over which console is better.

TBH mate, I liked the original Xbox controlers (not at first admitedly) The 360's are the best i've held. PS controlers suck most highly, never comfortable after about 15mins

PS3 is looking more attractive by the day: there are promising games coming out soon, apparently prices should drop by œ50 or so in the next few months, DVD's and PS2 games can now be upscaled to 1080p, and it does look the sex.

Oh, and apparently the 360 HD drive can be modded to work with a pc. That would be a nice and cheap addition to a media pc

JinjaNinja i don't find the 360 controlers atall comfy in my hand esspecially the wireless ones because theres the big power pack on the back, but i find the PS ones fine so i suppose it changes from person to person.

OK, so I'm lost here.

They've made a games console that is good, but not amazing at games, but has the power to beat almost any PC.
Except you can't use it as a PC as though it is OS compatable, it's not going to take the place of PC's for internet duties, word processing etc, so what is the point of all that power?

What would it be used for in practicle terms (not 'ooh, but it has the capabilities to blah blah blah') other than a games console?

The PS3 as a shiny bit of kit is nice.

The PS3 to develop for is a complete and utter nightmare. If there's anyone around that's tried their hand at distributed processing will know what I mean. It's got 6 cores to play with (plus the management one and, it seems, a deactivated one) - making them all do the correct thing at the correct time means a lot of wasted cycles most of the time. Unless you're really cunning... But most games developers aren't used to that concept totally.

At the minute, the 360 games that are coming out look so much nicer (I'll use how they look, since that's usually what eats power) than the PS3 equivalents. Not because the PS3's any less powerful, but because the 360's just so, so, so much easier to make do what you want! Eventually, PS3 devs may get better at it and, basically, figure out how to get the most out of the machine and everything'll get better... That's not happening at the minute though!

Well, cell processors are the future. So you have to hand it to Sony for using them. And I think it has a deactivated core because its easier to manufacture that way.

Multiple processors like this have been the 'future' for decades [:)] It's just they're not great for a lot of applications - difficulties in developing for them notwithstanding.

Sony's stated plan is that it should replace the vast majority of people's separate PC/hifi/TV setups, since it does all of them.
There's no reason whatsoever why you couldn't use it for internet duties, word processing etc..

They've been losing money so far, but apparently the cost of manufacturing the blu-ray drives is set to decrease soon. This will mean a drop of the price of the console and less of a loss for Sony. Sony make their money on the games and accessories for the PS3

Ofcourse they do, Who dosen't! But to still be losing on consoles isn't good at all. I think the lack of blu ray/HD DVD at release saved 360.

Didn't the person incharge of the PS3 project get "asked" to leave?

It is a long term investment by Sony. If the PS3 does well, Sony will start to make a big profit. It's a risky plan though

I've not been a fan of the ps3, mainly due to price. and that i've never really been a fan of consoles. I may get it if the price drops, but until then, and with games like crysis coming out for pc. i'm happy with using a desktop at the moment [:)]

Love the idea of putting linux on it though. who knows, it may even improve the frankly pathetic load times that sony seem to think we like?
