First thing - have a look at the Marin Dusk2Dawn, Kona Sleepless in the Saddle and any other 24/12 hour race sites out there. Read the reports from previous races, to give you an idea of what you are letting yourself (and your team) in for.

Similarly, read all 50 pages of this thread, there is some good advice within it.

Basically, in a team of 4, you will need to do at least one 7 mile lap every couple of hours, for 24 hours - think of it as a relay race. You need to rest, refuel and service your bike between laps. sleep is optional. You will need very good lights - there is some advice in an earlier post in this thread.

So, that's it in a very basic nutshell. If you need any further info, just post on here and someone will answer.

Turns out that this is the same weekend as a retro cars show I intend to goto in the summer at Mallory Park- which is only about 25 miles away, so I guess I shall definately be there as support crew after all!

As long as I don't break the car taking it round the sprint track at Mallory of course.....!!

TBH, the trails are, on the whole rather boring, no real climbs or descents. They are designed to wear you down rather than be Uber-technical. [:D]

Training Update:

Distance: 43.6 Miles
Time: 3h 57m
Average Speed: 11mph
Max Speed: 22.3mph

And, I didn't break into a sweat! [^]

Charity ride with Dan - we rode to Newport and back. Learned a couple of things though after riding for 4 hours on the XTC:

1. I miss my bar ends.

2. My SLR saddle is uncomfortable.

3. I consume approximately 500ml of fluid per hour.

So, back to the flat bar with bar ends and the SDG Bel Air.

Basic requirement for a team to be entered on the results sheet is to complete 2 laps each rider - which is about 15 miles (2 X 7.5 mile laps).

There are plenty of names in the 'Having a Laugh' category, ask around as see if you can get a team together.
