No, she payed for trying to keep up with SML

OR for the Pakistani javelin thrower, their first gold in any event other than hockey. Takes the title from and Indian!
USA have 27 athletics medals. Next best is 6......

Nicely played, Rick.

Wrong tactic for winning Silver, yes.

A combination of both, maybe, but she wasn’t leading the rest of the pack off the final bend by much. I wouldn’t expect to see her behind them at that stage.
Cockrell, in trying to keep up, knocked three quarters of a second off her PB.
Bol was over one and a quarter seconds down on her PB.

Amazing that Lyles jumped out onto the track and was leaping around full of energy pre race. Once he'd lost he was suddenly being wheeled off the track in a chair.

He seems like a decent guy in the sprint documentary on Netflix. But for all his "entertaining" he's quite repetitive and dull.

Bol's coach was on Twitter saying that Bol went out to win last night, with no regard for preserving chances for minor medals, with matching SML in the first half part of the plan. Didn't work, so was a failed tactic, but a tactic all the same.
If she'd run her own race she'd have finished around a second down on SML, which is no use at all if you want to win. (Her altitude-adjusted PB is circa 51.3).
Whether her ambitions were remotely realistic is another matter. I think not - SML is simply on a different planet.
Coach also said that fatigue from the mixed relay wasn't a factor.

She's broken the WR 6 times in total, I think.

I feel sorry for him tbh. He tries so hard to be the charismatic successor to Bolt, but gets blown out of the water by Mondo Duplantis, without Mondo even trying to be charismatic. (He just is!)

The woman doing the trackside interviews for the BBC has been pretty woeful. She basically asks everyone a version of the same inane question - how are you feeling/what are your emotions?

Why can't women manage to run an extra 10m?
The evolution of sport does show the effects of sexism in a lot of case. Bit like three set grant slam tennis.

Surely the ladies need to maintain a suitable level of decorum though. The amount of ankles on display! 😱
#sarcasm.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.1 -
LSC’s suggestion makes sense as both sexed are growing taller than past generations. For example, Bol is 6ft and SM-L 5’-10”. Differences between the 400 hurdles and flat have shrunk.
I wouldn’t raise it the full 6” but half that seems a reasonable compromise.
As for the shorter event, making the women race 110m is more a question of effecting stride patterns.
I would be inclined to leave things alone.

The hurdles in the 110m hurdles are 27% higher than those in the 100m hurdles. It's a completely different event. The men's ones are absolute monsters.

SML makes 400h look ridiculously easy in part due to her hurdling technique. She's run well under 13s for the 100 hurdles this year. Bol was running on fumes by the end and was really struggling over the "easy" hurdles on her weaker leg.
I'd leave the 100 hurdles as the 100 hurdles but maybe go for raising the hurdles. Does seem slightly "not right" than SML would almost have qualified for the flat 400 with her time last night. (And I think she did time-wise in the 2022 WCs, where the field wasn't so deep in the post-Olympic year.)

It was. But why do you think she tried it as a tactic if tactics are irrelevant?

Adam Ondra has had a nightmare in the boulder round of the climbing. Complete brainfart on one and just a very low score on another, no tops.

Is there anything more nerve-wracking as a sports fan than watching KJT on the javelin runway?

You would imagine Robinson has plenty of experience with boulders from his days presenting Time Team

Or at the very least a cunning plan in the offing.

The Lead route for the men is looking "easier" that the semi final one.
Good effort from Hamish to start with

It was a desperate shit or bust move and tbh you’re always better off ignoring that. It’s athletics. If people run faster than you, no tactic will beat that. (Cos there ain’t any)

KJT needs to win the 800m by ~8 seconds over Thiam tonight to win gold, would seem highly unlikely.
Their PB's are 6 seconds apart, and Thiam set hers earlier this year.
