The big 1500m showdown tonight ๐ฅ Pross wonโt be watching the arrogant whatsits, or hoping they trip each other and crash out
who are we going for? Ingerbrigtsen or Kerr?
Kerr for me . Ingerbrigtsen will take it out hard and wind up the pace as usual, Kerr will just hang on but have the grit to edge the sprint

I was going to ask the same.
I do think Kerr has got under Ingebrigtsen's skin, although the semi final could have been a bit of a bluff.
I think it depends on just how quick JI can go. It is very unlikely he hits 3:26/7 pace in a final which is what I think he would need to break Kerr. Like you Seano, I think Kerr keeps him in check then edges him in the last 200m.
Both straddle that fine line between confidence/arrogance, but I think Kerr feels he is going to win, whereas Ingebrigtsen feels he should win, which isn't quite the same thing.

I'm sure Kerr is no "shrinking violet" but his contribution to the rivalry feel reasonable to me. Ingerbritzen appears to have lost the plot somewhat, by seemingly overlooking that the two Jakes have beating him in the last two World Champs, and by claiming he could beat Kerr blind-folded. Maybe something gets lost in translation. And there's too much handwaving and gesticulating from him in races when rivals dare to run where they want to run, rather than where he has decided they should run.

I don't want Ingebrigtsen to win, but I think he will.
I'd prefer Kerr to win, and I think he might.
Somebody else winning will be perfect!

It will certainly be interesting. Someone will need to take the pace out hard from quite early on to run the finish out of Kerr, as from what I've read, he's the fastest finisher off a "slow" pace (i.e. something around 3:29/3:30 pace rather than 3:27 pace). But without pacemakers, there's no guarantee this will happen. Ingerbritzen may need to do the deed himself, and in this scenario he may be successful re Kerr, but get beaten by someone else. Or he may run away from the field and win with ease!

This has appeared to be his undoing in the last two WC finals, that sense he feels the others should sit back whilst he has his own procession to the gold. It seems when he hasn't broken them on the final bend that he doesn't really have a contingency tactic in place.

I won't be watching as I'll be out racing myself. Obviously I'm the best and will win (I won't I'll be lucky to average 7:30 / mile whilst the winners will be around 5:00 / mile. I'll settle for top half, I can make top third when in form).
Anyway, I just turned on but it looks like the BBC coverage has been hacked to show some primary school kids playing at the park.

You can easily see which skaters are pro, they promote products in the introductions, other are just happy to be there.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

They all seem to be falling off the same as the kids in the park.
To be fair, the tricks in this final do look a bit more impressive than this morning which was frankly boring.

Teenage girls with attitude too, by the looks of it!

What happens to older skateboarders? Do they end up broken or needing a job or something?
0 -
Well our male competitor is the same age as me (but has only been a Brit for a few years).
It feels weird when the middle aged commentators are talking and sounding like they still think they are young and cool.

Team GB has a 51 year old American entry in the men's event who'd been a pro for ten years before some of the other competitors were born.

Presumably competitive skateboarders are like tree surgeons: Lots of young, daring ones and a small number who make it last a lifetime.

Some of them end up cycling as there is less ouch moments. ๐ Last skated vert in a park aged 55.
The vast majority of them need a job. Only the elite few (or I guess influencers) make any real money. There was a couple of financial booms in America when real money could be made, and most blew it.

I suppose there is scope for them to do something more adult like BMX.

Funnily enough when I was skating BMX was definitely for the young 'uns. Always struck me as just another object with which to introduce pain. ๐

Usain Bolt dwarfed their egos, but he did it with humour and class.

Loved the massive grin on Kerrโs face after the finish.

To be fair to Ingebrigtsen he had to do that as he has no sprint and Kerr had to mark him. Fair play to Hocker, that was some race.
Have to say, thought Ingebrigtsen gave a very gracious interview afterwards.

3 seconds off his personal best and finish like that was, very, very impressive.
Both Yanks raced out of their skins.
