2024 UK politics - now with Labour in charge

Anyone offering them donations?
Where's the talent?
What are their principles?
What's their prospect for power in the next 5 years (well, minus a few months)?
If you care to counter any or all of these with facts, I'm all ears.

Still confused I see. Try some facts first.

Oh the irony with all those quote Telegraph opinion pieces you post as facts!

You're correct, I am confused. Tories are great. That's why Labour have got a 176-seat majority. You win.

Can you clarify the "...of the dead..." comment please? Has the founder of this thread departed the Forum?

Regrettably so. Adopting the high EQ version of myself (which does not exist, some would say), there are life pressures that have been building up and something has popped.
I kind of hope it is temporary, but now he's made a stand my assessment of his personality type suggests to me otherwise.

Yes, chose to die on the most innocuous hill imaginable arguing that something can be the same after being changed. Although I suspect there was much more behind it than that considering some other recent comments.

You think everyone is centre left, though. Despite supporting the biggest bunch of big state tax-and-spenders in decades.

Here you go again. 'But, but nasty tories'. I'm focusing on the current issues as we can't change the past.

Yeah, I did find that weird, especially as the subject was a single US pollster (not RC's life choices), and the discussion at that stage wasn't even about whether the pollster was credible or not. He's said in the past he used CS to spitball arguments he probably wouldn't have in real life - maybe he's discovered that that doesn't necessarily help one's state of mind, especially if one is inclined to see things in black & white terms, and the people you're arguing with tend not to give up too easily.
The name-calling (in both directions) just before his flounce weren't edifying.

Sad news re Rick. Not so much that he's left, but that it's likely there were real life issues behind his departure.

As someone who has on extremely rare occasions said things I regret, I won't be judgy about the flounce itself. And I do appreciate a good swear.
Tits and bums.
But there is something in the comment that even an anyonous online argument can be a negative thing.
Folks, lately, if you don't mind me saying, there has been insufficient humour. Even I have found what are clearly attempts at humour frowned upon in favour of the jolly important topic of the day.
Usually housing or planning.
Too rarely has there been an easy exit via being flippant. so let Ricks demise be a warning to us all about taking things too seriously.

Maybe we need to use emojis more. Perhaps we could find an online training course with one of those natty quizzes at the end to make sure we can use them properly, with yearly refreshers. I'm sure that Bean would approve 🤔😉🦒

Not sure how you missed it.
Yep, it was an odd one as it was a pretty inconsequential point where he was getting the usual reaction. The normal routine is the argument grinds to a halt and the he'd rinse and repeat with the next issue. This time he flounced which was pretty unexpected.
Call me a cynic but he has changed his profile to private so we can't see when he was last logged in, which kinda suggests that he's hanging around to read the comments.
Although I think the speculation above about why is probably not far off the mark.

I've warned you before about emojis. You are 30 years too old to be able to understand them. Think of it like learning a new language without any formal rules. You have no chance whatsoever.
☎️
See what I mean? That's an emoji that the people who understand emojis won't understand, because it only exists in historical archives.
The situation is hopeless.

Have I got that one right

Missed a lot due to being on hols. Trust Rick to create the drama whilst I was away!

I have absolutely no idea.
I think it's a compliment, so I'll take it as such.

What do you mean 'while I was away'? 🙂
He had a unique ability to rub people up the wrong way. Although I will miss putting him right on stuff, especially tax things.

It takes a really thick skin to almost constantly be trying to defend the wrong side of an argument. Only a select few like Stevo are capable of pulling it off.

If I think I'm politically centre left, does that mean I'm actually a communist?

TBF though, you can't try and view these issues in isolation, they are ongoing and a direct result of years of poor policy and governance under successive Tory govt's (and yes, in fairness some were in existence under previous Labour govts too).
Let's be honest, if this was a business that had been badly run and the board and senior mgmt were sacked and a whole new team brought in, everyone would give them time to make changes and acknowledge that previous mistakes had hindered them. The only difference is that this is poltics and lots of peoples objectivity is skewed by their political persuasion.

I think he was offering to give you a prostate examination.

Fair point, apart from the bit about me being on the wrong side 😊 I'm providing an educational service to the Cake Stop bubble - unfortunately I'll have to start adding VAT soon.

My point here is that taking that lie a piss poor way of defending labour decisions and c0ck ups. These are choices that Labour is making.

Depends on your frame of reference. If you ask a fascist, yes. Or Stevo.

For unknown reasons (though likely related to my technical incompetence) I cannot log in from my phone and thus am not motivated to do much more than skim through the most recent posts on a few topics every now and then.

If you're far enough to the left, most people appear to be fascists.
