Chap with famous relatives did better than expected?

More that Modi can't govern without support from another party, which presumably is quite tricky for a self styled strongman who is a serial micromanager.

How about how mental america is?
Laurens ten Dam and Thomas Dekker, have said that they were arrested and jailed ahead of Unbound Gravel this year.
The pair claimed on their their LiveSlowRideFast podcast, as reported by Wielerflits, that they were arrested for "indecent behaviour" in the town of Marietta, Kansas, after taking a shower in a car park on a training ride.
They ended up spending a night in jail ahead of the race, and paid bail charges of $185, although according to them, they will not face a court appearance in the US.
"We were going to have lunch at the Mexican," the former Rabobank and Giant-Alpecin pro continued. "It was still quite early. We had completed a three-hour training ride and were now quite hungry. It was half past one in the afternoon. I wanted to take a little cold shower and Thomas throws water over me. We stood between the car doors, taking a shower. Suddenly I hear a man screaming very loudly. But we just wanted to freshen up for the Mexican.
"I actually felt it coming. There were a lot of people in that restaurant. Suddenly there were five police cars. The man who had shouted at us was also there and said: 'You should go to jail for this'... They first focused entirely on Thomas. He was searched and then put in handcuffs. So I thought: s***. Then I had to turn around and I was also handcuffed."
"I didn't dare do anything," Dekker, who used to race for Rabobank and Garmin-Sharp, said. "I had five guns pointed at me."
And then the winning line:
"The indictment stated that we sprayed each other with water bottles like two gay cyclists," Ten Dam claimed.

That final line is both hilarious and pretty sad

That's just politics. I'm always intrigued by the whole dynasty thing that exists in so many countries.

I didn't see anyone predicting Modi was at risk of not getting a majority.

It's a Theresa May effort.

What's happened to Dr Michael Mosley? Disappeared on Greek island while on holiday, just over 24 hours ago.

Worrying. Usually doesn't bode well.
Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

Given he imprisoned 2 of his major rivals and has made his disdain for democracy fairly well known, I'd suggest it's more than "just politics".
Most analysts suggested that there was a threat that India was becoming an autocracy, so the surprise result is a welcome development for those interested in democracy.

How will the tour de France effect the election /pundit

Feels quite gutsy. I assume he’s trying to prove the European elections are a bit of a protest vote and to see where voters go in the one that really matters. Stops the far right lot banging on about the will of the people and how there should be a General Election. A gamble but hopefully it works.

democracy, let the people decide

Macron will still be president. It is parliament he has disolved, not a presidential election.

I think that Macron is a rather more astute politician (that wouldn't be difficult), but we'll see in this case if he's misjudged.

The BSW consider themselves as left wing.

Last time we joined in, whichever party was running at the time 'won' in the UK, but still couldn't get a seat in the UK parliament.

I remember. Given the option of not dissolving the National Assembly and seeing Bardella spend a year or so doing a Farage telling everyone that he should be in government, I can see why Macron chose this course. Delaying only helps Bardella.

Yeah I think it's rash and to do it on the same night is a bad look. He looks panicked and I think he probably is. Springing surprises in politics is an act of weakness, not strength.
Good thing is the far right polled better than the actual votes but the problem is really that the two biggest powers of Europe, France and Germany, are really staring down the barrel of the far right taking over.

Haha, my local French town results down to as far as 'insignificant' - there were 38 'parties' on the list. Lord knows how someone would know who to vote for if they hadn't done their homework.
