The US media completely ignored it in 1666 and not a single celebrity Tweeted about it.

😂🤣😂
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
I didn't invent anything of the sort. What are you on about?

This.
"Mind you, cant see an issue with people not burdening the state by going private - a bit like health, education etc."
There is no private emergency fire service available on call for fairly obvious reasons. It's not a thing.

Nope, you mentioned it first and I simply drew a parallel with use of private education and healthcare to make the point that people like that are doing the state a favour. Let me know what part of that point you disagree with.

I don't think people in California either hoarding enough water to put out fires or using the available water to protect only rich people's homes would be in the interests of the general tax payer or doing the state a favour.

"Doing the state a favour" (even if that were true) in this case would equal rich people paying for preferential treatment in a society-wide emergency. I guess you're cool with that.

Seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding of how predictable and manageable wildfires are. Let alone how emergency services work.
"Your fire is important to us, but we are experiencing very high call volumes at present and all our fire crews are occupied. Please hold..." 🤪
And who maintains a list of who's opted out of the universal emergency services? There's a reason private subscription fire services were knocked on the head a couple of hundred years ago.

Hey google If I have my private fire brigade put out a wildfire near my home, will I be able to have an invoice sent to my neighbour?

Alexa: you will need a lawyer to arrange a subcontract first.

Quite. When the forest fire broke out here, the four Canadairs were stretched to the limit and beyond: the choices were made at an intra-départementale level to decide on an hour-by-hour level where they should be... which meant their first priority was where houses were immediately threatened rather than 'just' pretty forest. I suspect that if people's wealth had come into the calculation, the guillotine would have made a comeback.

It would be good if you could find out who had excellent private fire coverage then move in next door.

It used to be big.

This isn't happening because global warming isn't real. Drill baby drill.

This wouldn't have happened in a republican state. It's a very liberal fire.

I guess at least it's given the little ketamine addled poster in chief something new to be an expert in.

He's just offering to pay to get a service from a different service supplier, leaving the state fire service with less work to do - hence the favour. Simple.

He's just trying to save his house and it's not about anyone else. I suppose we can forgive the absurdity of trying to do this via twitter.

I have a feeling that any private operator being paid to protect specific homes in the current situation would not be reducing the amount of work the fire department have to do.

180k seems quite a lot.
Strong winds for another day and a half ain't good news.

There is no different service supplier. Even simpler.
