An explainer of the seemingly stagnant Labour vote share.
They sacrificed the votes they didn't need for the ones they did.

That’s the efficiency. e.g. They did very little in Starmer’s constituency to concentrate their campaign where they would get more bang for buck.
They played fptp very tactically.

Yes.
Although I’m getting some dissonance from “efficient” and “Tories” being in the same sentence. 🤨

I mean, that's the system. Labour (now) and the LibDems appear to understand that; Reform either don't or just want to add another grievance to their list.

Always interesting to read a bit of self reflection.
Tl;dr: if you keep putting off the difficult stuff it will bite you.

Wonder whats happening over on the alternate timeline on which Truss called a general election on her first day as PM and the campaign was paused when the Queen died.

Given the key reason to vote reform is lowering immigration, why would your second choice party be the one that's overseen record immigration numbers.
0 -
But remember that they said that they wanted to reduce immigration while that was happening.

Thought I’d google the new housing minister’s thoughts on housing.
Views on housing
In May 2021, Pennycook announced his opposition to a 1,500-home development project in his constituency over concerns about the height of its planned high rises.[27]
In March 2022, Pennycock argued that housing supply is not a "panacea for affordability".[28]

Why did it take 2 recounts over 2 days to confirm a 2000+ majority in Inverness?

Angela Rayner is responsible for housing?

There was something up with the totals of the number of ballots from the polling stations v the number of ballots counted. First recount had the same issue.

He's junior minister, she's Secretary of State.

Delay in that result was Charles Kennedy's ghost inflicting revenge on the SNP by prolonging their misery?.

The Tories who lost, rather than quit.
I think the final total is 172
Worth a click through to catch all the ones you missed on the night

FWIW I think the days of voting for the colour of the rosette are gone. Or those who do are mostly dying off.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Reynolds on TV now explaining how they won't revisit the constitutional issue but will improve trade deals so we can 'sell more whiskey and salmon'

I guess it might help N.I. to sell more whiskey. 😉

Whisky would be the correct spelling of what Reynolds said, as I assume it was no accident he mentioned Scottish products.
There was something in the Withdrawal Agreement, that I've long forgotten, regarding the description of the product produced in the Protestant Unionist heartland of Bushmills as Irish Whiskey

They should have a memorial service where they read out all the names whilst solemn music is played.
