I'm convinced we can make Sunak cry before polling day.

The constituency I live in has been Tory since forever.
The last incumbent Tory (Chris Heaton-Harris) annonuced he was standing down at the election and so the Conservatives have sent in some bloke for this "safe seat".
I have looked at all of the other candidates - all are local, all have their plans/policies for the constituency on their websites/social media etc. and, as per kingstong's post up thread, have received mail from the Lib Dems (which comes every couple of months anyway)
The new Tory candidate seems to be above such interaction with the voting public. His website details his "acheivements" in his last constituency but doesn't even mention his new one, his twitter feed (last updated weeks ago) merely has something saying he is pleased to be standing for the new constituency but, again, nothing about what he's going to be doing in it should he get elected. I have received no literature through the post or knocks at the door.
I can't work out whether he's just resigned to fate or contemptuous enough to know he doesn't have to bother.
I have emailed him to ask what his plans are but no reply as yet.
Anyone else have a candidate so cock-sure they're going to win that they have made zero effort?

You'll regret it when the Tories announce they are giving million pound bonuses to 60 year old trumpet players.

I've had nothing from any candidates. We did get a visit from Labour canvessers a few months ago letting us know that the boundaries have changed and we are in a different Constituency now plus dropping off leaflets for their P&CC candidate but nothing from anyone since.

I've heard they are very short of campaign funds but you wonder how much it would cost for him to update his own website. What else does he have to fill his time?

Yes, the only party that I have physically had something through the door from is the Lib Dems but all of the other candidates have up to date Twitter feeds and websites detailing their intentions etc. The Tory candidate's website doesn't even acknowledge the fact he is standing in the constituency . . . the constituency Conservative Association website says "We are looking forward to kicking off the campaign and working hard . . ." but has abosolutely nothing about their plans/policies . . . there is no campaign.
They're still going to get elected though . . .

The Savanta poll the other day had Daventry as "lean Labour".

Ooh! Interesting!! - I've been looking at this one https://pollingreport.uk/seats/E14001192 but have no idea as to it's accuracy to be honest

...including Clacton... seem to be three parties all pretty close behind Farridge.

The polls would be better off saying x to labour, y to conservative etc and this many "too close to call"

Fairly actively contested in Carshalton and Wallington despite it being a Con/LD marginal likely to swing strongly LD. Feel a bit sorry for the previous MP who was part of the 2019 intake, has generally been good as a constituency MP and is clearly fairly embarrassed by the shit show created by his supposed leaders. Mind you even if he did stay in, would it be a party he wanted to still belong to?

I have never had a single candidate for local or general elections knock on my door, or any party canvassing in the area ever. I can only ever recall a couple of party leaflets in 20 odd years of being eligible to vote.

We have 2 leaflets from the standing conservative mp with slogan working hard🤷🏼♂️ Also one from the Yorkshire party.

That’s what I was wondering.

One to cheer up Stevo (from Private Eye)
Darren Rodwell, Labour leader of Barking and Dagenham council, has withdrawn his MP candidacy amid sexual harassment allegations, which he denies. The latest scandal comes after a number of controversies: securing election banners on gravestones, threatening to evict residents if they don’t grass on rellies involved in crime, and accepting over £20k in gifts and hospitality, much of it from private housing developers. Despite appearing to breach the council's anti-bribery policy, he remains council leader.

Imagine standing down as a candidate just because of a bit of scandal. He'd never get selected for the other lot with that sort of loser attitude.

I was too busy enjoying watching Starmer getting skewered over his previous statements about his old boss ☺️

Just looked at that in detail and by my reckoning there are 4 seats that are lean Conservative and another 147 'too close to call' in which Conservatives feature (two of which are seats they don't currently hold). So even winning all the too close to call seats they'd get 151 seats. 49 seem to be too close to call where they are the leader so basically they are leading the polling in just 53 seats and none are secure. That feels a little bit optimistic but would be very funny.

If the Reform vote holds up, it could be devastating for the tories.

It really would be funny if Farage kills them off after they bent over backwards back in 2015 to fight off the perceived threat of his Party at the time.

I suspect there will be a lot of "shy" tories who, all things considered, might still vote for them when they get into the booth.

It appears to be the Trumpian accusing others of what you've done (or tried to do) yourself.

They're worried Labour might do a better job of it though.
