Just as Starmer was asked straight “Are you a socialist?”, I wish some of these political correspondents would ask the likes of Farage, Braverman etc. “Are you a fascist?”.

Don't imagine he disagrees with much of that. But still a pointless question as he'll just say "of course not."

More populist than fascist. The SNP have been calling anyone who is not with them against Scotland for the last 17 years. It is really offensive when politicians do that.

Good point, I had not thought of it through this particular double standard.
I get what Rick is saying that fascism is far more complex than simply being right wing, but it still exposes the hypocrisy of Idiots like Farage, and as @secretsqirrel has pointed out, the timidity of the media in not asking him and his ilk, particularly in light of their willingness to challenge Starmer around his ideological beliefs.

Some real fantasy stuff in the transport section of the Conservative manifesto
61 years after the Beeching Report, how much of the track bed and station buildings do they think still exists? Let alone in Network Rail ownership.

There was one reinstated in the Borders, which would give another north south option if completed to Carlisle. Lots of potential capacity to be gained there.
They reopened the line from Exeter to Okehampton and there is a recommendation to do Plymouth to Tavistock. All nice for hikers visiting Dartmoor you might think, but in fact the bed that joins the two is fairly intact as a cycle path and would be an emergency bypass of the Dawlish stretch that keeps washing away.
These are good policies, but actually not Tory ones as such. They are just claiming them.

The 62% thing came in in Labour's last government, so has survived a lot of politicians including the coalition government.

Sure. But why are people suddenly making out that it's the Tories who are going to solve that after 14 years of not?
0 -
I don't think it is controversial to say that the Tories are more likely to solve this whilst it is more likely that Labour may invest money in education and health.

the tories are obviously happy about it, they had 14 years, even though it's a ridiculous measure that has a person earning 125k paying a higher proportion of their total income in tax than someone earning more
tories also lowered the threshold for the 45% rate, and gave us years of frozen tax thresholds
the tories have become a high-tax/high-spend party, crazy

You'll find out come Christmas time 😉

Nobody seems to find it strange that wealthy people pay more to get nicer things - why is it considered so odd for them to accept paying more to live in a better society?

Stevo will bring out that tired fable of the blokes in the pub if you’re not careful!

How about the "society" to that requires spending on doesn't affect the lives of the wealthy, so they don't want to waste money on it.
Once we make our first million or two, we might better understand.

They still seem to want a stable society to exist alongside.

I'm surprised there's no policy to increase capacity between London and Manchester...

I agree with this:
Why bother messing around with pissy little measures and appeasing the people who aren't going to vote for you anyway, should go all in on what they eventually hope to achieve.

Not only that but things are going to be dire regardless of who is in charge.
We are looking for someone to mitigate the damage, not a new hero. Tories have already proven they are not it.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Surely trying to get rid of (employees) NI by the end of the next parliament is quite a significant cut?
I don't think the reason the tax cuts aren't landing well is that they aren't ambitious.

PB with a positive, upbeat spin again! 😁

Were doomed, doomed I tell you!

True dat. 😉
Look at the nation's economy along with the incoming increases in costs, not to mention repairing what is broken. You either bury your head in the sand or accept the oncoming doom and do your best so that you are not caught out.
