Could we possibly talk about the real world rather some fantasy where the Conservatives win and then find a magic money tree? Taxes are going to continue to rise. We all know that.

in 1991 3.5% of adults paid the 40% higher income tax rate.
By 2027, that share is going to rise to around 20% of taxpayers.

You're not listening - Labour will raise taxes, only the Tories can save you from that fate.

They'll do what the Tories did and will raise them despite what they said in the election campaign and use the (reasonable) argument that they had to due to the nation's finances and public services being in such a shit state. We all know this but would prefer it to the Tories also raising taxes but doing less with them.

I'm not 🙂
But in a couple of years, you may want to thank me for warning you 😉

I'm not planning on retiring any time soon. In fact, I plan to still be working when I start collecting my state pension, which may annoy Rick.
If the worst comes to the worst, other countries are available.

A bit hypocritical to leave a safe country and become an economic migrant elsewhere.

Tax exile, please.

Given the odds of a Labour, win you're probably right that taxes will go up.

See above for evidence that they are going up either way. Of course they are both saying they won't, but they have to.

They've both defined "zero tax rises" as tax policy currently planned, such as freezing the thresholds.
And labour are studiously listing three specific personal taxes that won't rise. They aren't mentioning business tax, council tax, fuel duty, taxes on savings, pensions, CGT, IHT, new wealth and windfall tax, etc.
Let's face it, whatever they aren't saying wont go up is fair game.
The main reason the Tories aren't hammering this home is because it's the same if they win. Their main distinction is they've claimed taxes are coming down, which they aren't, they aren't guaranteeing anything and they've pledged to try to abolish iht and national ins, in both cases falling a little short on a commitment to actually do so.

Yeah it was odd when Sunak was banging on about how Labour were going to tax pensions, obviously it's only because the thresholds have been frozen for so long... but neither want to mention it because neither want to change the status quo there.

I only read this thread on the hope there’s an early reporting someone has shot Nigel Farage.

Not sure that a dousing in milkshake is quite the same thing. Although if they want to take him out they need to hire someone a bit more effective than a Corbyn supporter with an Only Fans account.

On pensions Labour absolutely intend to change things. The Tories have recently removed the lifetime limit and Labour have said they will re-impose it.

Sure that wasn't the topic though.

Wait a minute - are you admitting you were the milkshake thrower?

Suspect that will be dropped if they are already talking about exempting NHS staff which is not a sustainable position on account of being so obviously unreasonable.

The point under debate was whether pensioners would pay tax due to the pension exceeding the annual allowance. But the change to the lifetime limit is a significant change to pension taxation.
