Isn't there a difference between sad and miserable?
It needs to have a good dose of nihilism to be really miserable for me.0 -

Could really have gone for anything from this album - Dummy is a classic of the genre.mrb123 said:
Another one from me - Leonard Cohen, Famous Blue Raincoat. Absolutely dripping with melancholy.

Ah Dummy, the first album I burned for my now wife when I had only just met her.
Don't say I'm not a romantic.1 -
The more I listen to this the more I just realise I just dislike the recording.rick_chasey said:
So for me this is standard fare which I guess shows where I am on this.kingstongraham said:After that interlude, here's a really miserable song. I'm so tired by Fugazi

I like the song but the way he hammers the keys really annoys me.
I get that it's supposed to be "raw" to capture the emotion. but the levels are all over the place, the quality is poor, argh.
Same with the Chamber of Reflection cover that's so popular at the moment.

Just keeps hitting the envelope all the time, and the piano is way to high in the mix.0 -
Agreed but I think it's a taste thing. She's hardly dancing on the ceiling.photonic69 said:0 -
I'm not 100% sure that it fits the premise of the thread, but very hard to listen to and if it doesn't destroy you then there is something wrong with you.

Maybe it's the new meds I'm on, but for whatever reason, coming up with any ideas for this thread has been a struggle! Not sure if they all fit "miserable" songs, but best I can come up with for now are...

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

That track was years ahead of its time, and is absolutely harrowing. I have a 2 Tone compilation album and its the end track on one of the records. Never fails.davebradswmb said:I'm not 100% sure that it fits the premise of the thread, but very hard to listen to and if it doesn't destroy you then there is something wrong with you.

Maynard Keenan's lyrics I find can bit of an emotional rollercoaster, in either of the 3 bands that he is in, Tool, A Perfect Circle or Pusifer
Portishead - Dummy is such a great album, as was Tricky's Maxinquaye of the era0 -
