  • Is oat bran, oats with the husk left on?

I am that sad I have actually weighed out the porridge/milk as a result of this thread and in turns out my guesswork was utter rubbish!

I actually have around 75g of uncooked oats with 300ml of milk/water combined (2:1 milk to water).

Pan for me, I am a fussy git about consistency and this is the best way to control the cooking. Have found Flahavan's oats to be the best for me.

  • Interesting video from Alex Dowsett on eating and weight management. Obviously, it is from the Pro cyclist perspective but still has some useful insights for anyone doing regular riding/training.

Slightly amazed how he says pro tour teams were useless at nutrition advice, basically telling him to eat less! Would have thought every single top level team would be all over this with nutritionists and tailored advice.

I don't know, horses just eat grass and I bet they could beat most cyclists in a race no matter their diet.
  • Yeah, but put a horse on a Pinarello Dogma and he'd have no chance....

Horses get dropped regularly during the TdF.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

No, no NO! They are limited by a fields boundary. If a horse competed with a cyclists in the grand national I know who'd win. Basically, the higher up lycra.

Best time for a horse over 22 miles - 1:26. I'll take that race on a bike, especially on roads.

Reading various specialist cycling forums it does seem the some of the top teams are no where near as advanced as we think they are (aero for example). No wonder Sky pro Cycling cleaned up when they started as they looked at everything. Thanks for the link, I always enjoys Alex’s vlogs.

I can only put it down to an 'old school' mentality. Cycling seems to be one of those sports where the old methods and mindsets are very hard to shift. I guess with most DS and Team Manager's coming from pro cycling over the last 20-30 years, many just carry on with the same practices from their careers.

You'd assume Sky were at the forefront of those stuff but Dowsett did ride for Sky so presumably he includes them in his criticism.

I do not think that the horses in the top stables at Newmarket simply eat grass.

Even my wife's horses that do little more than the horse equivalent of a cat 4 crit eat more than just grass.
