Yep, it's the variety that makes things interesting and there are so many good songs for various reasons, lyrics, instrumentals, emotional connection, moment in time...Trumpets spoil a good song though with their three button valve things.pblakeney said:Sorry, can't play. Too many potential winners and musical taste is very mood dependent. My pick in 10 minutes will be different to my current pick.

I can't remember any other pop songs that go into double time and then doing a massive slowing up (rallentando) to get back to the original speed (tempo primo).0 -
I suppose that one can't ignore Michael Jackson. Shame that this one ends in a fade out...

I would go for Ashes to Ashes David Bowie. Good choice with Two Tribes (+video) given the current situation with Russia.

Maybe a legacy of growing up near Greenham Common.focuszing723 said:Good choice with Two Tribes (+video) given the current situation with Russia.
Did you know that he directed the excellent TV series Chernobyl? Johan Renckfocuszing723 said:Twitter: @RichN950 -

I never got Elvis, and not sure if he qualifies as 'pop' as it's really Rock & Roll, though his music was, er, very popular. But then, so was Cliff Richards. Erm.

Yeah, funnily enough I posted about it after reading up on the song a while back. I thought they were great lyrics so there must be more to it.RichN95. said:

I was looking at some The Police songs - there are some corkers there.0

I'm trying to work out what does it for me...
Got to be: poppy, not too formulaic, technically decent (good sound, instrumental and vocals, *in tune*) for starters. Interesting harmony/chord sequence helps.
Two that fit those, I think:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f79aAIHUC5I

Both of them use their voices to the full to get the sentiment over.
Hmm, maybe not very poppy.0 -
My favourite is Synchonicity II which may be a little oddbriantrumpet said:I was looking at some The Police songs - there are some corkers there.

You've put Alison Moyet in there which makes us think of Vince Clark and Depeche Mode and thishttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snILjFUkk_A
Then you bring a Prince song to the discussion. Let the master in.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jCuroTbqBI

Hmm, interesting, that one had rather passed me by, and certainly very interesting and well done, but in the pop stakes it's going to lose out by not having a singalon-able chorus (and yes, a little odd). Sting is certainly a fascinating singer... have you heard his album of Dowland lute songs?0 -
Does ZZ Top count as pop?

Call on Me by Eric Prydz probably created a bit of controversy. Great video though.

Argh - on the sound (who's listening?)... you can hear that there's some sort of crude normalisation going on if you listen on headphones - a kind of recoil after each bass drum thump.

Meh. If you want to go down that road then they are all scared to go as far as Duran Duran. I put the videos for Girls on Film and The Chauffeur into the ring. Before anybody cared about upset.focuszing723 said:
